I want to replace the speakers in my Tundra....need help.

I want to replace the stock speakers in my 2017 Tundra SR5.

I don’t want to do anything more than replace the existing speakers....no amps, no HU, etc.

I am really interested in the Toyota plug and play offerings from Focal but the Crutchfield website says they won’t fit...not sure why.

Also, is the factory non JBL HU 2 ohms or 4 ohms?

Suggestions for good sounding, quality speakers that are easy to drop in would be much appreciated.

Most likely the Head Unit is 4 ohms, 2v preout.

 

That’s what I figured also, but a customer service rep at Crutchfield told me it is 2 ohm.

Crutchfield told me the same that its 2 ohms. I had the non jbl as well.

 

I'm looking to do the same thing. I have an '18 Crewmax. Stock system is the worst system I've heard. The highs are like an old radio with the dial slightly off accurate.

Can you replace just the speakers? Will it help at all?

If crutchfield says it fits, is it a sure thing it fits or could it need other components, like adapters, etc.

The options I have are Center Dash Speaker or No Center Dash Speaker. I have both right+left dash speakers and a center dash speaker. When I select center-version on Crutchfield, it only shows me center-dash speakers. Are they the same? Ie, do I get 3 of that speaker to redo all of them?

 

replacing the speakers alone might help a bit, but it will be minimal. The main issue with the factory system is a lack of clean power.

 

I just did a full plug and play upgrade in my 15 PRO and it now sounds great. Upgrading just the speakers will help some, but the to really hear the difference i would recc upgrading the amp. I go rockford fostgate speakers for the front and rear doors, a 5 channel rockford amp, & the taco tunes plug and play amp harness, no cutting and no spicing to factory wiring required. I got the speakers from crutchfield and they came with wire harness adapter and door adapters and they worked great. If you dont want to add a sub, i would still recc getting a 4 channel amp with hi-level imput connectors(that way the taco tunes harness will plug in or even if it doesnt the taco tunes harness is pre-colored so you just put the wires where they go. Crutchfield carries a good selection of amps, I would just get on of the 4 channel mini amps that will be plenty of an upgrade and they fit right under the seat where the factory amp goes.

 

I guess the adapters and wire harness are why Crutchfield is 30% higher than anywhere else on the web. Were your speakers shipped with Tundra-specific adapters in the speaker's manufacturer's box with the speaker, or as an add-on that they knew to ship because of your vehicle designation?

 

I have a 17 CM with non JBL. I find the factory speakers to be terribly low. Most of the time I listen to Podcasts and I have to crank it up to 35-40 and still its pretty quiet.

Best option would be to buy a 4 channel amp and upgraded door speakers?

 

Yea they got added when i put them in the cart, they are the basic speaker adapters for Toyota, you can get them seperate from Amazon for about $10 a set. and the Speaker adapters were the Schoshe ones, but they were just fine. I didnt want or need anything crazy, I got front & rear speakers with adapters and harness from crutchfield for $120, and i added a shallow 10in sub behind there rear seat. Just enough to feel some bass and actually hear the vocals with out being max volume.

 

So, didn't touch the dash speakers at all? I feel like that is where the worst quality sound is coming from.

 

No i have not yet. And the amp wont affect them either. they get their power from the headunit. but they are on the list to swap out at some point in the future. They are easy to do and pretty cheap.

Yes they are 2 ohm. I just made that mistake buying 4 ohm speakers that fit then having to send them back. I was looking at replacing the amp but did not want to lose the center speaker in the dash since it works great for phone calls. Now looking at a powered sub and keeping stock speakers.

 

This is great info....and it makes perfect sense. If I can add an amp with a wiring kit that is essentially plug and play, I’ll do that. I just don’t want to tear apart my new truck to get better sound.

Right now i just plan on buying the speakers with the premade tweeter sails from ********* should be a huge improvement with my kenwood. I hope.

 

Same idea I have.
I just wonder about my 3 dash speakers, they seem to be the biggest problem and all I see around the net seems to think you have 2 corner dash speakers or just one center speaker. I have three speakers in my dash, for sure.

Stock head unit: With Alpine amp swap under pass seat runs through radio.
Under rear seat cargo box is 10” Pioneer Sub with Pioneer amp.

How did they install the tweeters? ********* has pretty much everything for plug and play

 

Used the stock brackets, cut out the stock speaker and replaced it with Alpines tweeter.
I did it myself on my 2008 Tundra

 

I also wanted to upgrade my sound system in my '16 SR5. I thought replacing all the door speakers and tweeters in my truck I would be able to tell a real difference in my sound quality. Unfortunately replacing just the speakers/tweeters I could not really tell that it was that much of an upgrade from my stock. I could tell the music was a little crisper but it wasn't near as loud as I thought it would have been. I installed Infinity brand speakers/tweeters in all four doors. I ordered from Crutchfield and they had everything I needed to install the speakers (wires, mounting brackets, plug-n-play wiring to the new speakers, etc.).

I am now in the process of getting an amp, sound processor, and a couple 10 inch subs for the back seat. After doing this I'm sure my sound system will sound like I want it to and will be so much better! After all is said and done I should have a new sound system for under $1,000. I guess you all can always install your door speakers/tweeters and if it doesn't sound like you want it to you can always add components later. For me I just need to get the rest of my parts and for the weather to get warmer here so I can install everything.

 

I installed new (expensive) speakers to my new head unit and even then, I wasn't impressed. The stock amp has to go too. The Entune puts out terrible power and a shit signal.

Save some money, install a plug and play amp from Tech12Volt, a new HU and some speakers. Do it once and do it right.

 

I think this says it all. I have to just go for it. Never done a car stereo upgrade but I've rewired 2 boats completely, including stereo, autopilot, multiple sounders/nav systems. The only thing that makes me nervous is removing the seat and running battery cable to support the amp.

You sure that yours has a center speaker?

 

Yes, and corner speakers. Why do you doubt it?

 

Running the amp wiring is really pretty easy once you get into it. There is nothing too difficult with installing a new system. Just take your time and you will get great results.

 

Because many of the trucks have a center speaker grill that looks like there’s one but when you open it up, there’s actually no speaker in there.
