Header Exhaust setup

I have a 2014 Crewmax with 5.7.

I want to get more out of the engine. I know header and exhaust will do the trick, and wanted some input on what might be the best bang for your buck. Furthermore, is a tuner required with headers? If so, what are your thought on tuners. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

 

I would skip the tuner for now and go straight to the headers. Is your truck a flex fuel?

In my opinion, the best set up would be straight flow thru mufflers. 16 inch or more to help eliminate the rasp from the headers.

Mid pipes with one cat so you don't have to run sims and the truck passes emissions on its own.

And finally jba long tube headers. These have produced the most power and low end tq.

There is a company called bamuffler or dirtydeeds industries that sells the whole set up in 3 inch pipe.

But you could piece it together on your own with 2.5-2.75 inch pipe.

Supposedly the 3 inch pipe is better with headers and midpipes, but I'm not sure how much difference it makes.

A bullydog tuner would compliment this setup, but dyno proves a tuner adds zero hp or tq.

Click above to see nonresponse to your questions. Before you jump into it, do some searching so you don't waste money buying the wrong setup. Also, a bullydog tuner set on the trail tune is the ONLY tuner and tune you should use with headers so you don't go to lean and detonate your motor. The tuner adds nothing to power numbers, but does have performance shifting. It's claimed that it will add some low end tq, but it can't be dyno'd.

All of this will probably run you over 2k by the way. So in my case, I can't supercharge because I own a ffv. Well I should say I won't until an actual tune is developed for sc ffv trucks. You can do it, but have to use a stand alone tuner and I'm not sold on that idea.

I just mention the cost, because its a third of a sc. Maybe you want to save for one. Me personally I think the cost of full exhaust for half the power increase of a sc is worth it.

There is a lot of info on the subject, but hopefully this will get you started down the path of emptying your bank account.

 

And by the way, there are lots of different opinions on the subject. So there are several ways to skin a cat. These are just my conclusions based on the research I've done. Other brands of headers and mufflers are out there and I'm sure they will net you what you are after too. Just do your research.

 

I've heard a lot of good things about the SpinTech setup too. I know SpinTech has a few different options you can go with. I think you can get an X pipe or Hpipe configuration from SpinTech. I'm think the SpinTech setups are around 1300 to 1500.

Well what sound are you after? Honestly give Kieth a call, he's a super chill guy and will know exactly what size muffler to recommend to you. Everyone who gives him a call always gets what they were after in terms of sound and loudness of the muffler. He makes some badass systems that sound absolutely kick ass.

 

I can't offer any info on installation. I've only done the research and only have duals from the cat back and tail pipes installed so far. I have about a year until my truck is paid off and waiting until then to spend the money. Maybe I'll be asking you for installation tips!

 

Anyone got any updated info on this subject? Jist bought a 2015 Tundra Trd 4x4 Crewmax, looking to make some upgrades and heard this was a good place to start?? Any info is appreciated!!
