What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I need to adjust my beams lower as they are still a tad bit too high after install. The cheapo $100 aftermarket set has a really really terrible adjuster where I can't access it with the phillips head from the top. I have to remove them and use a socket to adjust......

I got it pretty close when I was installing them. But removing the side marker lamps is a pain in the ass.

 

I would have the same thought. I have read on here that it probably isn't necessary for the starter if you're not showing issues, but I just do it while I was there since I would not want to have to take all of that apart again. I'd even keep the old starter and have it rebuilt just in case they become discontinued down the line.

 

With all of the talk in another thread on tpms in the later trucks. Is there a way of adding it to my 2003 if the rims I bought off of a T4R have the sensors in them? I never looked until @shifty` posted some pictures of with and without sensors and mine definitely have the sensors, as well as my spare tire from an FJ. I'm about to get new tires anyway on it and thought about having that just in case for my daughter.

 

What year T4R and FJ?

Do you currently have a TPMS light in the dashboard? I'm asking because, Denso's support on the 550-0103 sensor starts at 2004, and when I run a random 2003 Tundra VIN via Google a minute ago, it kicks out the error below, as if you have no TPMS available for your chassis.


Generally speaking, as long as it's a Toyota vehicle in a comparable year range, there's a solid chance the sensors are using the same transmit protocol/frequency, and will work. I'm pretty sure none of the TPMS stuff is secure/encrypted, so it's all about - first and foremost - that the frequency is 315MHz to the TPMS ECU can actually "hear" it, then it just needs to be speaking in a protocol the TPMS ECU will understand.

Truck doesn't currently have TPMS in it, just the sensors that came with the FB purchased rims. I was asking if there is a way of adding the TPMS to the 2003 trucks to utilize the sensors. I have seen the aftermarket kits for vehicles that don't have it. My CR-V just has the annoying different rpm reading means one of your tires is low but not telling you which one it is. So, I have looked for a full kit for it and was just wondering how hard it would be to add the monitor to an older truck without it.

The only thing I think you can do would be to go with the aftermarket kit - but I'm not sure what is compatible.

SHARP stance, looking good

 

It doesn't look like I can easily check. I tried unblinking the plastic box by the starter, but it looks like I may have to remove the crossover pipe to really get it.

I took a look at the passenger side knock sensor wire, I think that's just a bunch of dirt you saw, not corrosion. I wiped it off and took a few more pictures.

Oh, I thought that was going to be a 10mm socket, but close enough, 5/16"...

 

Passed emissions today! Stoked!

 

Since I've had a bit more time lately, decided to catch up on dealing with my truck. Over the past week:
- Oil Change w/ Liquimoly
- Ignition Lock Cylinder (Need to get it re-keyed to my original keys)
- *Front Right Window Motor +Regulator Assembly (Still doesn't work.... Checked the fuses and switches. Getting some diagnostics done tomorrow)
- Steadily more and more fluidfilm (I'm starting to see some surface rust and I don't like that after hearing of the wonderful horrors of 'frame rot')
- Added a Husky rock chip guard to the front from (Looks cool...)

Planning on doing more such as more fluidfilm and restoring the plastic on the bumper, wheel fenders, and sides. Also noticed a coolant leak (bunch of pink coolant residue on the frame). Going to see if they can figure that out tomorrow. Hope its nothing big.

Probably should look at the tank seams of your radiator and check the fluid level. Sounds like a swap may be needed soon unless it's just just a hose.

 

Does it feel or.sound any different with vs without?
