If a person were to prefer color keyed and leather over chrome and cloth but found a great deal on an otherwise well equipped SR5, how hard would it be to make it look more like a limited?

Short of finding a donor vehicle to swap out bumpers, grill and mirrors, what have others that prefer color to chrome done?

Are power/heated seats and the heater controls from any 1st gen Tundra or Sequoia plug and play? Does the wiring harness accommodate a powered passenger seat without modification? Is the wiring for the heated seat controls somewhere under the center console?

If it matters, the hypothetical SR5 would be an 05 or 06 DC.

Something else I'm curious about, how hard is it to get a hold of some of the original accessories offered by Toyota? Specifically the front skid plate, truck bed extender, and maybe the TRD exhaust.

I think an OEM skid plate is still offered by Toyota.....IIRC.

Frankly, I wish my Limited was an SR5 or otherwise had cloth seats!

Look up "chrome delete" in this subforum. The hardest part is the grille, because the chrome grille has notches in the plastic and the chrome plates are glue and keyed into the grille, you'll need to swap the grille with a Limited grille. Or vinyl wrap the chrome bars, which is also covered in this subforum.

This is covered in the megathread. It's the 3rd bullet point under the "Seating related info ..."
    • Heated seats, available in the DC (I've never seen in AC, anyone know if it's a thing?), is also possible to add-on, but there's a myriad of aftermarket kits you could buy also, anyway the instructions are here. The switching is normally done at the center console, but I think I saw there the switches may've become unobtanium recently. Best bet may be finding a donor truck at the junkyard with all the wiring and seat stuff intact.
I highly encourage using the megathread before posting, using the "Find" feature to search for the thing you're dealing with.

A bunch of it is disco'd/NLA. Like, the sports grille, the sport pedal covers, floor mats, etc. You can get compatible truck bed extenders. TRD exhaust is NLA, I believe, you'll need to find it used off another truck (it's a cat-back IIRC). But generally speaking, Toyota stopped manufacturing much of that after the last year of 1st gen production, their spare stock sold out within a few years of the last production.

It’s one of reasons that those unicorn on b.a.t. Fetch so much$$. It’s not always easy to frankentruck any better than desirable factory optioned vehicles. Can be done, this Tyler guy had the slickest 4Runner, but he was rainman level good. Best luck on your project

They were back in Feb of this year. Got mine from Ourisman Toyota along with other things. While it shows only fitting an 06 Tundra and many yr Seq, it fit my 04 DC LTD perfectly....part # PT212-34060

    PT212-34060.jpg

I would take a look at @912 build thread. He accomplished a number of your items on his 05 SR5....heated seats, leather seat covers from Katzkin, vinyl wrap on grill, mirror, rear bumper.
While it's a good chance the 05 wiring harness has heated seat capability, perhaps @912 or others can confirm.

Yeah man! I'm shocked nobody wants to highly-optioned 83k original mile 2006 AC for $25k

Speaking of skid plates, that was something I meant to mention. I've still got a spare ... @Jack McCarthy ordered one recently from Toyota, and went through a 2-3 month wait to get the damn thing, so the stock on that part may be getting low.

While browsing stuff on ebay last week when i posted all those side steps, i saw a few of the trd skid plates for sale. May have been NOS, may have been a knock-off, not sure i was grazing in a field of shit and piss looking for side steps and grazed right past the skid plates, but i did see at least one or two.

    ah what the hell

That's wild, but not sure I'd call that a "skid plate"

What kind of skidding would it realistically protect from?!

I don't, but was never really into Tacos once the 2001 restyle happened, and they definitely fell out of my favor with the 2nd gen, it's like they modeled it off the Chevy Colorado or something, the angles are just weird.

I've never been a fan of bullybars or skimpy under-bite type bolt-ons. Or brush guards, for that matter. I dunno, I'm one of those weirdos that generally prefers my vehicle bolt-ons to have a definite purpose/function.

Why do you prefer cloth to leather? Is it a heat and stickiness thing or ease of care, or?

Let's see....leather cracks, your butt slides all over on it.....I guess that's why I prefer cloth to leather.

At some point we hope to put some good seat covers over the front seats.

To be fair, leather doesn't crack if you take care of it, and "taking care of it" is as simple as wiping a quality conditioner on it 1x-2x per year. Leather also doesn't have a "rub count" associated, it doesn't hold stains as easily as cloth. Cloth doesn't get as hot in the sun or cold in the winter, but overall, I prefer leather these days. Either one beats the hell out of vinyl, though.

That doesn't look bad at all considering you said it spent it's life up north. I would say that the only way to be sure is to see it in person. I also look at the engine bay and see if there is rust on fasteners in there. That can be an indicator as to whether other fasteners are going to be rusty and a pain to undue.

That underbody is in amazing condition for NJ. Definitely need to inspect all of the "problem" areas typical for these. If you go to look at it, take good photos and post here. Rear bumper is a $110 replacement item so no big deal.

The going to look at them is my real issue. I'm in Hot Springs, AR and there are no good examples for sale around here, at least there haven't been in the last several weeks. My options are to buy sight unseen or wait patiently until one comes up in my area. Dallas is the nearest an acceptable truck has come up.

May indeed have a new frame in 2015 but it was not done because of a Toyota recall program being it’s a 2006.

I would worry about bed rust and underbody rust in general. If it got a new frame, the underbody definitely got blasted with salt. I bought my FGT in upstate NY 2 hrs south of Albany and there was quite a bit of rust on axles, underbody, engine bay, ect. I would definitely be more interested in the first tundra you posted that lived in Virginia most of its life.

I prefer cloth because full leather seats can quickly stretch, sag, crease and generally not look so good in short order. However, if the driver is something like 110lb woman it won't be near as bad as a 175lb or heavier man. No amount of leather cream or cleaner will prevent it, although can prevent cracks in the leather.
