I doubt it, since the engine shuts off when you open the door after a remote start.

It appears the device in your video can only be used to hack the unlock and lock data, but not the data to start the engine.

That said, I'm sure some sophisticated thieves have figured out how to hack the starting data too.

Technology is a two edged sword isn't it? Awesome to have, but can be used against you.

They have. Look at any of the theft vids on YT from Canada. Once inside and laptop plugged into OBDII port it’s about 5 to 10 mins to initialize a new key. ** Million Dollar idea - an OBDII Port Locking cover! One of you guys with a 3D printer can get on that!!

So, we've progressed from punching a hole in the steering column and hot wiring the ignition to plugging in a computer and initializing a new key? Great progress...

The locking OBDII cover is a good idea. Or, how about software that renders the OBDII port inoperative unless it detects an initialized FOB?

Not that they'll see it, but I'll throw in my idea on how to make this work without jeopardizing all the safe guards and "terrible" outcomes Toyota has designed for...

If the fob can be energized by the start button (or something in/around the start button) to enable starting the truck with a dead fob battery, it could do the same to enable shifting out of Park when the fob is not detected.

So if you forget something and hop out of the truck, when you get back in without the fob (fob not detected) it won't let you shift out of Park. In the case where you have the fob, but the battery is dead, you put the fob next to the shifter and pull it out of Park.

Uses existing tech and a little more programming.

There's a new edge case though...
    1. Get in
    2. Shift to Reverse
    3. Realize you forgot something
    4. Throw on the parking brake while in Reverse
    5. Get out of the truck
Could maybe solve that the same way. Put the fob next to the shifter to release the parking brake AND/OR shift out of Park.
