Am I insane for considering paying 23K for a 05 DC?

Yeah absolutely not. I bought a 2006 DC with 134k in 2018 for $9k and sold it in 2021 for $9.5k. Was a great truck and I loved it, but it was still just a truck and going 3x over KBB is a really good way to wind up losing $18k if you get in an accident. Until it can be tagged as an antique and insured for full "value" (which is super unlikely to be $25k any time soon considering how many of these are still on the road), it's a bad idea.

That's friggin awesome! But get rid of the Subaru plate frame.

The closest I ever came to that was when I had a 1979 Camaro in 1998. If I hold onto my 2006 Tundra a bit longer, I might achieve such greatness.

Sad it doesn't say BLKSNK or BKSNEK. Although the later may confuse some New Yorkers into thinking you're a snake from Brooklyn.

Custom vanity costs money. Classic is included at no extra charge. I'm cheap on certain things.

You're insane, but soon you'll be insane AND have a FGT? That's a win. Plus you'll be driving up the value of ours? Maybe?

I was disappointed that it took four pages before someone (me) posted Black Sabbath "Am I Going Insane".

Interesting and timely thread. I am in the PacNW where Toyota's are a bit of a cult, especially anything 'gen 1'. I am looking at a 2006 DC 4x4 SR5 OR, 115k miles, original owner, owner works at the Toyota dealership here. Water pump timing belt done recently. Piles are maintenance receipts, new apple play head unit, new BFG K02. Owner is asking $24.5k (firm). One sold recently in our area for $23k, similar mileage. Torn honestly, but I am considering a Gen 2.5 as well.

$25k and you can have mine :D

Raising the price $1k every year until it's a "classic" and no longer needs emissions, then I'm keeping it for life.

Sounds pretty high, but then again I guess prices vary by region.

Yes, in AMERICA where Toyota's are a cult! Thanks for the correction! I've been pouring over the 1st gen 'wanna buy thread' -- great source of info! I am still torn on Gen1 vs Gen2. I had a ford SD most recently which was totally overkill for what I am looking for. I like the Gen1 size -- it is roomier inside than my 2012 Taco AC but not huge externally; Gen2 seems quite a bit bigger. FWIW: I am looking into Tundra's to add a simple pop-up camper top and some simple camp gear and hit the road with my wife and 2 medium dogs....I retire in 6-9 months.

Someone posted the interior of a 2nd gen versus interior of a 1st gen, with identical cab types, and the Gen1 was surprisingly (to me at least) roomier.

Wow, I am surprised to hear that -- I thought the Gen1 was smaller internally. Will be looking at a Gen 2 this week....

Be aware of the head gasket issues with the aged 5.7L/3UR-FE. I'd maybe trust it if the coolant was changed religiously on schedule.

I was unaware of head gasket issues with 5.7L/3UR-FE. I'll need to read-up on that.

Most differences on roominess is based on perception, internal arrangement, not actual size differences.
Newer ones are 1” wider on exterior, buts that’s mainly due to shape.

The 2018 GMC company work truck I drive looks bigger/roomier, but pull a tape on it and drive them enough…..I’d drive the FGT any day over the 2018, as the Tundra is much more comfortable, and doesn’t have the cramped feeling.

I know the truck you're talking about, it's been for sale for at least 7 months, if not longer.

Looks nice, but if it's time on the market is any indication, that price is too high, even for the PNW.

The truck would absolutely be gone in a day at 17k, maybe 18k.

You are talking about the black 2006 DC with 115k miles on it? I saw it on CL just recently...

So in short form, 1st Gen DC is 0.1ft longer and 2nd Gen CrewMax is 0.1ft wider and taller.

My buddy is selling his 06 4wd DC with 170k for $9k. It's not the cleanest, but it's a good 1st gen.

Yup. I've seen it there on and off for a long time.

Not to say anything is wrong with it, but just that it's been up. likely due to price.

As far as trucks go. Seems nice, good combo of options.

I tried to get My Canadian Friend on an 06 DC here in Grapevine for $6k. He gave me some kind of lip like "something something 2WD something something, eh"
