Quick update on my new long block. Driven 850 miles with no issues and changed oil at 600 miles. Plan to change again at 1500 then every 3-5000. Below is Blackstone report forthose that enjoy tracking/comparing oil data. Wondering how it compares to original motors with 500 ish miles.

I was told by Toyota customer service that they are also replace the turbos. I am currently waiting for my motor and new turbos. I see just motors on the post but no pictures of turbos. Just checking to see if this is correct?

I dropped off on June 2 with 45107.
I picked her up today June 5 with 45135.
    Cab off process.
    It runs great.
Tranny shifts a tad firmer at slower speeds.
    Engine seems "tighter".
    Engine idles quieter.
Still too early to get a read on MPG.
    So far I'm very happy.
I'll get a few weeks and a road trip behind me and report on dealership details.

Getting better gas mileage. Just drove to Colorado and back. First long trip with new motor that has 4800 miles on it. Old motor would get 17mpg with cruise set aroumd 80 mph. This trip averaged 20mpg with cruise set at 79 mph. I was really surprised and happy.

I have also learned how to improve around town mpg. The engine trans mapping in eco mode upshifts to the highest gear cruising at 49, 59, 69 and 79 mph. This drops rpm to 1200 at 49 and 59 and 1600 at 69 and 79. Whether around town or on highway these sweet spots have raised my mpg 2-3 mpg.

I’m not sure if it is the new motor, new programing downloaded with new motor or finding the sweet spots. Either way it has consistently been better.

    Might be a dumb question:
Does the dealer change oil after/before they replace the engine?

If no, should I get the oil changed before I will take the truck for the engine replacement?

Yeah, no. Zero reason to throw away good oil in a bad motor.

They drain the old engine before pulling iirc. Maybe they take a sample to send to Toyota?

Thanks guys. I was looking at September or October to get the engine replaced.
New engine comes with new oil. So I guess I'll just keep driving until then - won't t bother myself to change oil in July.

    UPDATE
    45494 miles and very happy.
I have not been on a longish "Interstate" trip to test steady MPG in ECO mode, but so far in all other road types it's about the same, perhaps a slight tad lower (but not enough data samples to say for sure).
I have made a couple of 100 mile runs in the Texas Hill Country, and ECO is about 17. SportS+ around town is about 15+.
I need some flat terrain data and I have a couple runs to Dallas and back on the calendar. Once I complete one leg of a run to that godforsaken place I'll have a better read on exact MPG stats.

Tranny is now smooth as silk.
The overall feel and performance of the drivetrain is excellent.

The cab is just as quiet as before and the rattle in the sunroof cover has not re-appeared. Let's get through winter before celebration.
The fuel line recall was applied during the engine replacement service.

    Regarding the dealership and service.
    San Marcos (Texas) Toyota.
    Excellent communication.
They said give us four full days and they needed three.
Drop off was 8am on Monday June 2. Pickup was at ready early AM on June 5.
They apparently have a dedicated tech there that is doing only the replacements with the cab off method. He was highly regarded by the Service Advisor and I have seen nothing to dispute this so far.
I have the receipts and name if anyone wants to discuss this detail further.

I was dreading this process, but being a guy that gets 10-12 years on a truck, resetting the mileage clock from 45104 to 28 was a massive stratigic win as long as the work was 100%.

I have nothing but nice things to say about SMT, my advisor, and the tech that did the replacement. All top notch (so far).

Just got my new replacement motor and I have to say that it definitely idols quieter and shifts smoother. I haven’t taken it on a long trip yet but I will keep y’all updated once I do.
