I could swear i’ve seen him throw one back together. & same, valley of dispair, i know just enough to get me into trouble. I need to dig a little deeper to find out which springs i need to stretch to let me give a little more throttle before it downshifts.

I think I'm sitting at 82,450 right now. We're basically neck and neck. I've been having to drive up to Helen several times the last few weeks to work a new job, and will be making several more.

for those of you that have purchased CVJs axles which option did you go with? I have a 2 inch lift in the front and was wondering if its worth the extra money to get the oem inner boot vs the after market version that they have available.

Previous commentary I've seen on here is, "If buying CVJ Trakmotive axles (sorry, got confused on brand as I mention below), unless you buy the premium, you'll be just as well off getting anything from the local auto parts store". Paraphrased, for sure, but the good axles start around the $400-600 price point.

    Like ATV or truck?
    I grew up calling ATV's "4-wheelers."
And semi trucks or tractor trucks were "18-wheelers."

Ok well then my opinion would be for the 100 and 200 series Land Cruisers, first gen Tacoma TRD, Nissan Patrol, Mitsubishi Pajero, first gen Ford Raptor.
But that's all based on hearsay, being I've only owned the Tacoma, but both mine were TRD prerunners, so no 4wd, just rear lockers.

Good info. Thank you! If I can repair it, that would be much cheaper, definitely the preferred option here. My fluid is still clean despite its mileage and age. So hopefully it is just one bad part.

I would need the repair manual to find out what "Accumulator Control Valve" is and what's involved.

I am realizing in hindsight, I may be mistaking CVJ for Trakmotive.

I was tired last night. Was stuck in a meeting from 7:00p-11:45p last night, and it was brutal. Something I'm volunteering for in the community. Call wrapped up about 25 minutes after that post. Basically 5 hours of brainstorming local development issues, not fun.

Got it! Thanks @Johnsonman! Good news, the Accumulator control valve is inside the valve body. I'd pull the pan, filter, valve body and go after that first.

When I bought those, I went with the "no lift" option. I think I did the neoprene boots. Those were on a AC with 3 inch lift. After 3.5 years of moderate driving the boots were starting to split, but otherwise they worked great. I would probably opt for the OEM boots.

Yeah, CVJ are re-manufactured Toyota CV axles with fancy boots. I have a feeling the do/did just buy re-manufactured from Toyota and all they "re-manufacture" is the boot. Unless they have a contact at the Toyota company that produces the steel parts for the joint itself, I have no idea how they can re-manufacture using "original Toyota/Lexus steel", since the steel parts aren't available through a dealer.

    upload_2025-7-2_9-37-59.png

The one I circled in red is the only one I would personally buy, and I guess I'd give them the core charge too. I was previously getting reman'd Toyotas from the dealer for $150 each, core included. Guess I'm glad I stocked up on extras before Toyota stopped selling them.

I'm team OEM boots as well, the Porsche 930 is the only other boot I'd run. Even with my driving style, the stock boots get plenty of life. Since I have a stock of Reman axles, I just swap one out when the boots are done for. Eventually when I need new boots on all my CVs, I'll knock them all out at once.

What is your evaluation of other "high angle boots" ?

I think there is a thread outlining the options well but I can't find it on my phone at the moment...

Anything except Porsche 930 for high angled boots is not worth it in my eyes. CVJ's boots are a ridiculous amount of money, even if grease/ clamps are included. Porsche boots are cheap and have been proven across many applications.

Even with stock boots, you can condition the boots to prevent cracks and even put petroleum jelly between the fins of the boots to reduce friction. For the latter, I would clean and reapply after driving through mud/ elements so nothing gets stuck in there.

I'm about to try out the porsche boot. I have 3 oem axles needing rebuild and will test out the porsche boot.
@PNW15 the porsche boot seems to be the best price for a high angle boot. My opinion, but I didn't want to spend $80+ just for two inside boots.

I've got OEMs sitting in the garage that I bought back in January when I did the lift. I was expecting tears pretty quickly and was gonna buy the 930 ones if I needed to. When I was under there cleaning up this past weekend, I was happy to see everything was still good. Slung a little grease, but no tears. I'm riding that luck train as far as it goes.

As long as you take care of them, OEM will be fine with a lift and even slightly longer shocks. I've put plenty of miles in the wilderness on mine. Only torn two boots in the last 6 years.

I enjoy driving like this, if you want to see what my boots get exposed to (well at least my outer that is visible)

Man. Someday I need to come out west and head out with y'all. Got these 6112s/5160s and they see about 1 mile of dirt road a month. I am going to Crested Butte in a few weeks, but I have to stay on more tame stuff since I got no one to pull me out.

A sincere "Thank You!" Black Mamba. If I can pull this off it will save me big $$$.

Everything is a rusty mess under my truck, and just taking mental inventory of the things I would also have to replace while stabbing a transmission (entire new exhaust, rubber mounting components, refilling lubricants etc) .... it was going to be a big expenditure.

    This helps immensely.
