Best tonneau cover options for First Gen Tundra (2004)

Wasn’t asking for that, friend. And not about to start wrenching on my truck’s body either. Just wondering if body shops or maybe a paintless dent repair person might be the first point of contact. I worry that any time you step into a body shop it’s $2000 minimum. Trying to avoid that. That’s all.

 

I got the truck bed bent back to nearly square. I met with a mobile paintless dent removal, and he put a tool with a hook on it over the top of it, with a heavy circular weight on a rod with a stopper at the end. Yanked on it a few times, and it was done. Took about 15 seconds. Pretty impressive really.

I'm still down to the these choices in the first quoted message, plus the Truxedo Lo Pro, that as far as I can tell is maybe just a nicer version of the first one I linked from TruXport. No one else makes one that I can see.

Anyone have any experience with these Truxedo ones?

Armordillo cover that shifty recommended. Unfortunately there was a manufacturer error so it didn't work. The panels were offset. I was about to order another one (exchange) but the company said they weren't sure it would fit my truck after all. I ended up getting a used

North Mountain vinyl cover on FB Marketplace. It fits great. Hopefully this will help someone out.

Looking around at other vinyl covers, this is a pretty good deal. The Lorado is $659. The Weathertech one is $550 or so I think. This one is only $175 and seems about the same design. I bought it off a guy who unfortunately got rear-ended, and they totalled his poor first gen Tundra for frame damage. So he pulled it off and sold it online. After futzing with the install a bit (I didn't have any instructions. Just had to figure it out with the parts I had.) I got it situated and I'm really happy with it. Only downside is it's missing one of the plastic clips for the crossbar supports, so I have to manually lay that one down on the rail and manually roll it up, but otherwise I'm really happy.

No worries dude. You can probably email or chat up North Mountain to request a replacement part. Just tell them you damaged or misplaced yours.

A lot of times if you go to the manuf'er website, you can download the OEM install PDF, and there will be a parts list inside, with parts numbers, and potentially re-order info.

Hell, with what you paid, even if the part is $30, you're still way ahead of the curve.

 

Great idea thanks. Yeah I got the used one for $90. Unfortunately though that big plastic clip was sewn into the vinyl lining. Would probably be a bear to re-attach. Might just have to resort to the trusty duct tape.

 

Do you still have Bakflip tonneau cover?

 

I do, but another new member pinged me about it out of the blue a couple days back, and they’re in line to take it off my hands at the moment. EDIT: It's sold.

For future consideration, if you're not too worried about keeping it water tight Tyger Auto has some good options. I've used both the soft roll-up, and soft tri-fold. Tyger Auto

 

I just checked for 2000-2006 (you’re in the 1st gen forum right now), and I can’t seem to find anything worthwhile for our 1st gen trucks.

 

I went for the BakFlip and can recommend. Not cheap though. It was a buy once, cry once deal. I trawled FB Marketplace for weeks, but one never showed up. In the end, just spent the money. At least there is a warranty.
Expensive, but even with torrential rain, it's been bone dry underneath. Plus as I have the DC, the bed is a little taller so you can carry slightly taller items and still close the cover.

 

Just updating on this: They ended up taking it off my hands. I appreciate the interest, and that's super weird to get two requests on it back-to-back after not hearing anything about it for a year or more.

 

Anyone know a fold-up hard cover that can be had in the color white?
