    thanks man. that's what i finally told myself. i'm lucky enough to work from home so its not even a huge issue for me to be down on transportation during a swap out. i have the hybrid engine, so I'm hoping that one fails less, I heard originally it wasn't part of the recall, although I don't know if that's still true.

    i been sitting on the sidelines since 2022 watching people drive these trucks just being jealous. time to jump in the deep end.

    This is where I am at. Stressing about it when it's not doing anything wrong is pointless. Lamenting over what I wish Toyota had done instead is pointless. It can be cathartic to get in a bitching session, but at some point reality has to prevail and none of that matters.

    Drive the truck you like. There is no wrong answer here.

    You're right it makes no difference currently. However, it was in direct response to another claim that the 3rd gen is superior to the 2nd gen (more capable as a towing, hauling vehicle, and at altitude) based on the improved engine torque and HP, supplied by forced induction.

    While we can disagree about what determines "capable". What we can not disagree on is that from '08 through '15 a stock 5.7L forced induction engine was available that exceeds those defined capabilities of the 3rd gen. That's it, end of story, 3rd gen is not more "capable".

    Have you towed with both? It’s not even close, 3rd gen is far superior imo. I’ve had a pile of trucks, mostly 3/4 diesels, but compared to my 16 tundra I had my 25 tows circles around it.

    Also tows better then my 2.7 ecoboost I had, different strokes for different folks but I don’t get the 5.7 hype. I get they are reliable, so was the 4.0 I had in all my second gen tacos and 4.0 in the 4Runners we owned, all gutless compared to the 3.4 tt in the tundra.

    I’m not talking about a modded 5.7 V8 compared to a stock 3.4 TTV6. Stock for stock, the new powertrain IS more capable than the NA 5.7 is. I owned both and have towed with both. Have you?

    I’m doing all I can in hopes of my 24 lasting a long time. Changing the oil every 5K. One by me and the other buy the dealer since I prepaid for maintenance till 85K. That way it gives me a chance to look things over. Every 10K I filter out the used oil to see if I find metal. So far there’s isn’t any. 15K currently.

    Not sure oil changes have any effect on failures as many failures on the spreadsheet have done break in oil changes as well as frequent oil changes, oil analysis etc.

    Totally different application, but for dirt bikes, there’s a magnetic oil filter that I’ve ran for a couple of years now with no issue. Instead of a paper or stainless filter, it’s just a long neodymium magnet that traps ferrous particles, which then also traps nonferrous particles because the ferrous particles act as a filter to trap other contaminants. I actually don’t even clean off the magnet most of the time I do an oil change so that there’s material to catch nonferrous particles. I’ve wondered why drain plugs don’t always have a magnet on them for that reason.     Yeah, I have a feeling that everything you buy would have to be dirt cheap for you to buy it. My 23 Limited Tundra Hybrid TRDOR is $45k from Carvana and it seems to be holding steady. My miles are at 29k roughly but not the 49k it was 6 months ago but not too bad considering I owe 28k on it. So, that is a differential of $16-18k. I would probably try to sell it on my own since I have upgrade off road tires and a bed cover, but they don't seem to be that bad. My has been maintained by the dealer and all Maintenace done on time. YMMV though.

    When I was shopping for a new truck back in April, 2020 and 2021 Tundras with higher miles were selling for several thousand dollars more than similarly optioned 3rd gens. I don’t think Toyota ever offered the kind of steep discounts and incentives on the 2.5 gen tho, so the actual depreciation realized by the buyer might be similar. Used 2022-2024s should be great deals for guys that are okay with the potential of a motor issue.

    Toyota seems to be more volume based now than 10 years ago let's say. I have owned a Toyota since 2019. Shocking at times over the years when I go in for service at my mid sized local dealer to see rows and rows of either Tundras or Tacos with trucks unloading more in the back

    Stack them deep and sell them cheap seems to be entering the sales pitch

    We are now in a strange post COVID period where the usual glut of 3-4 year old used vehicles coming off lease or bring traded in are constrained by the very low COVID years new vehicle sales. Used car values are actually rising again. New vehicles maybe more available than used ones, and a better deal particularly if they have cheap financing attached

    They never had capacity before, they only somewhat recently moved the Taco out of plant to clear the way fro more tundra production.

    Same at my dealer, although when I was looking awhile back the 6.5 foot bed in 1794 or Platinum was very hard to find. I thought that build would be a great set up and look with the factory lift. I drove a short bed platinum and liked it a lot, very nice interior.

    At least in the case of the Tacoma, the dealer I bought my Tundra from 2 weeks ago had a row of probably 30 Tacomas in a line, come to find out that they are all MY2024s that have an active recall without a fix, and thus can't sell any of them

    I got 10k off my limited off road last month with 1.9 for 60 months. Large volume dealer. Today would be the day though since it’s the last day of the month. Always buy the last day or close to it as possible for the deal.

    FWIW, 2 weeks ago, just about 9K off of my '25 Limited; that included the $3k customer cash from Toyota; definitely not the best deal out there, but they had what I wanted in a rare color/combo

    This has been an interesting thread. Can't wait to hear what the end result was (unless I missed it). Sure hope this is a "one off" 2025 incident.

    My take:

    Very proud that Toyota is stepping up and taking care of their customers. Let's be honest...this is a huge deal.

    The bad for this guy is while you have a warranty, this doesn't do you any good on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere in freezing or Africa hot heat waiting for hours. I have been in that situation (freezing) with an infant and it scared the crap out of me in Montana. When I got back to Colorado my Dodge went away and the Tundra went into service for 3.5 years.

    yeah I think its mostly a comms thing that people are frustrated with. lots of us are toyota loyalists due to how they handled previous issues.
    like the whole frame replacement fiasco is what solidified me as a long term customer. but as someone who just put a deposit down on a hybrid i've got crossed fingers and raised eyebrows.

    Continuing the updates… truck has been at the dealer for 8 days; on Friday I was told to call Monday for parts ETA, on Monday I was told it was way too soon to know an ETA and to call Thursday (tomorrow).

    I got a call back from Toyota corporate yesterday (Tuesday), to whom I plead my case RE: long block like the recall vehicles instead of short block, since, at this point there is no confirmation of what failed (truck has never been taken apart, and still drives based on where they parked it). The case manager stated she had called the deslership’s service manager On Monday but hadn’t heard back and that she would call me before EOB today with an update. This afternoon she called, no progression because she still hasn’t gotten a call back from the dealer despite calling them and leaving messages daily.

    If corporate can’t get communication from the dealer after 3 days of calling, I feel like that should be a red flag to them…

    This is actually on my list for tomorrow's call with Toyota corporate... My only problem is not knowing what dealers in my area are actually decent (our previous 3 Toyotas trucks literally only saw a dealer for their free services). My only "stellar" service experience with a Toyota dealer was in South Florida while traveling, so that's out of the question
