So a quick question. I know the issue I'm having could be anything... but getting my 2023 Tundra i-FORCE 3.4L towed to the dealer tomorrow for mechanical failure.

I was driving on the highway and the truck shut down at 80mph with the check engine and low oil warning. Checked oil level and it's full. I tried to restart and it sounded like it was clunking and banging in the engine internally. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

It's got 50K mostly miles on it so in warranty.

What's everybody's experience been with failed motors and Toyota service in general. I'm not thrilled with the dealer I bought the truck from and am towing it to a different one that was recommended to me.

I would think dealers would be jumping to get warranty work but if it is an engine failure, don't want them trying to blame maintenance etc. I'm not the greatest when it comes to scheduled maintenance and probably push longer than I should with oil changes. But again, the oil level is full and I don't beat the heck out of it.

I just want to be prepared once the tell me the diagnosis and if they push it off.

So my truck had been at the dealer for a week and I got the call today the engine is shot and they ordered a replacement. Kinda scary that I have 51k miles on it… 9k away from it being post factory warranty. My truck is not on the recall list. I asked them the issue and they said they didn’t get past scoping the cylinder walls… they were all scored…

i actually bought the Toyota Platinum warranty for up to 125k miles based on driving 25k plus miles a year. Funny thing is I bought it for the electronics, not the motor.

If I didn’t have the extended, I’d be super hesitant to keep this truck knowing I had 9k miles left on the factory warranty.

I think I would sell it immediately.

Will be driving a Highlander for the next month and a half.

Have to say the dealer has been super nice and accommodating. I guess it’s great warranty work for them.

tough deal man, sorry to hear

but likely take a loss, sell it, and buy what?

just curious, if mine blows up, not sure what I would do moving forward, be hard to get another tundra, but the others suck also.

Yeah who knows. Just glad I’m covered until 2028 or 125k miles

I'll likely be getting the extended soon as well, I need to decide before may 2026

I usually get it on new vehicles now a days, just the way it is, 2Gs is nothing when something takes shit with how complex vehicles are now
