    Aloha!

    I looked at wiring diagrams to no avail. I have a 2006 Tundra, V8, 4.7L SR5.

While working on the timing I noticed a wire I can't identify. It comes out of a harness just above the wire to the oil pressure sensor. The covering is green or brown (I am somewhat color-challenged :) but has what looks like a Green with stripe coming out of it. The end is bare solid wire, not stranded with no lug on it.

The covering also has a white plastic holder with a ball on it to push into a socket, probably to keep the wire in place.

Is that not the original wire that was going to the oil sender? The wire coming out of the harness you're holding appears to match the wire coming off the sensor, but a new (thin, white) wire is spliced into the sensor wire, maybe a previous owner hack?

I wonder if the idiot who had the truck before you wasn't aware of the Toyota TSB for low oil pressure on these trucks, due to the oil sender? Or wasn't aware that aftermarket sensors tend to read low/off?

EDIT, I just looked at the megathread, and see they must've corrected the oil pressure sender TSB by the time your truck came out?
    • Low oil pressure gauge (00-02 Tundra / 01-04 Sequoia): There's a TSB out to address the situation with the oil pressure gauge reading low in these years. Check to see if your VIN applies by reading the TSB here but before you replace the sensor, read this note too.

As far as I can tell it's a ground wire. Green is usually ground.

Pretty sure that's yellow with a green stripe.

Oh THAT'S the wire!!! Ok, I didn't look at it close enough. I thought that was the uninsulated wire coming out of the green cable. Yeah, yellow with green stripe. Disregard what I said about it being ground.

Yeah, it's weird. My first impression was someone ran a new, thin, white wire to the oil pressure sender there, and did the most laughable, shit-job of twisting and taping it with electrical tape, which is utter bullshittery.

But IIRC the oil sender is yellow w/green stripe, OP is shooting the wire on the green stripe side so it looks green. I think the previous owner or some other hack must've been dicking with the wire, and what OP is holding is the original oil sender harness.

If it were me, Id be tracing that white wire back to see what kind of fuckery/buffoonery happened with it, where it goes, what it's hooked up to. That may answer a lot of questions.

When it comes to electrical issues, specifying whether it's an AC(access cab) or DC(double cab) when needing assistance helps.

That said, regardless AC/DC, your original wire color should be Yellow w/Black tracer. I personally would want to follow that small white wire and what appears to be the original harness to see what I could find.

Yep, I concur! Who knows what someone did. Hopefully it won't be too difficult.
