Well, it appears I have made my first DIY goof up. Did my Valve Cover gaskets over the weekend, Passenger on Saturday, Driver yesterday. I've got a decent oil leak on the passenger side, but driver looks good. The leak appears to be coming from the bottom rearmost bolt on the cover - at least that area. It happens for a short period of time after running, but stops after 30 min or an hour. That bolt is the only one I couldn't get the torque wrench onto due to a dipstick in the way (Transfer case??) , so I hand tightened it with a ratcheting wrench. I did my best to do the X pattern when tightening the 9 bolts, but maybe it just had uneven pressure. I already went and tightened the bolt down a little more with no success stopping the leak.

What should I do next? Loosen it all back up and retighten? Take it off, clean up the FIPG, new gasket and FIPG and try again?

That dipstick is the transmission. I’m guessing that means that’s never been checked.

I did pull them and reseal them with toyota fipg. And I resealed the spots up toward the front as well. Cleaning off the old FIPG was a pain, and I'm wondering if maybe i didn't clean off all the old stuff perfectly enough? I was trying to keep from knocking it into the engine.

Haha. You got me. To be fair I've only put 20k or 25k on it. But I know. shame shame.

I'm gonna loosen it all the way back to finger tight tonight and retighten. See if maybe it got a little canted or something. For the X pattern tightening on the valve cover - is it inside out or outside in?

Installed a Garmin Mini 2 I had leftover from my 4Runner and new OEM marker lights. I was going to get a black set but the headlights were new OEM so I had to go with stock. It's the little details that make all the difference.

Tap and die set is good tool to have and can help when threads get dirty or galled.

But in this case think if the threads are stripped so the bolt spins in place that cleaning the threads won't add more material to grab into. Helicoils, rivnuts, or welding then drilling/tapping are ways to restore the threads so they have the material to mate to the bolt.

Hmm didn’t necessarily realize they still made the corner markers OEM. How'd you do on cost? My passenger side depo one is leaking just like the one it replaced under warranty. May have to go the OEM route one day. Depo headlights are working great though.

Brake fluid flush is next on my list…I haven’t looked at fsm yet to see if this the LSPV, but most pics show it under the truck, and there is no bleeder valve to be seen on it so what is this? Part of ABS?

haven’t seen anything like it on the forerunner.

That’s an ABS module. The LSPV is behind the gas tank on the drivers side above the rear axle. All of the brake lines in the back can be traced from the drums back to it. There’s a lever on the passenger side of the rear axle that actuates a rod that stretches back to the drivers side that also leads to the LSPV.
