I have a 2004 Double Cab 4x4 that has a leaking front passenger CV axle. I took it to a local auto repair and was told that I needed extended axles since the truck is lifted (2.5"). I had that axle replaced two years ago, and it wasn't an extended axle (different shop).
The extended axles are about $300 more each. So I'm asking if extended axles are necessary or not. Did this last axle fail because it wasn't an extended? Also, do you recommend replacing both at same time?

No you don’t need extended axles.

Have you read the “Suspension wheel & tires” section of this thread yet, to learn what you need to know and know what to upgrade? https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/

If your truck has aftermarket axles, that’s why they failed.

If you didn’t do what that thread tells you and check for grease sling, re-clamp your OEM boots, or your boot was torn, that would lead to failure of your axle.
