What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I am an ARE dealer, this is indeed called a Contour Strip. I replace a lot of these since they like to crack at the rivets. ARE part numbers:

Someone else recommended going to https://www.4are.com/ and looking for the dealer nearest to you.
You'll want to pull your serial number off the plate inside the cap to get the serial number. You may also be able to figure out which variation it is (CX or MX or V or TW)

Nice, yeah I think I came across this post in my search as well. I did go to an ARE dealer a while back to see what they could get done or order for me, they basically gave me the "oh your serial # is too old because it starts with a F and we won't be able to look up parts for it". I'm fine taking my chances on one of those contour strips that may not technically be specific for my model as long is fits for the most part, I may even email ARE directly with that pic and a pic of my serial # plate to see if they can at least tell me what series the cap is.

 

Didn't you tap and zerk your Solos yourself?

That's something I'd like to someday do for my solos and spcs, when it's time to regrease the bushings. Pop em out and drill some holes in the bushings to allow the grease to flow when being pumped in.

 

I normally jack the truck up, loosen the bolt, grease, hand tight, lower truck back on its own weight, retighten. Zerk or no zerk I've always gotten the best results this way.

Today.....towed the long trailer (7'x18') and did three yards.

Coming up a steep hill and just after passing under a bridge where the road narrows to one lane (naturally you cannot see what's coming as there is a knoll) BOOM here is a BIGGER truck pulling a BIGGER trailer! Had either of us been three seconds faster we would have had a head-on collision!

I put the brake pedal to the floor, yelled some words I won't type out, but the guy must have been going kinda slow and he must have gotten way over to his right...at least a foot or two between the trailers as we passed each other. Guess my heart is in pretty good shape as I am sure I spiked the heart rate!

Made a comment about "needing to change my undies" which the immigrant wife had no clue "why would you need to do that?" SMH LOL

*Maybe a good thing I let the stealership replace the calipers, rotors, and drums....

Also, as soon as we get some bills paid off, putting that brake controller thingie on there.....

So there is a guy in the suspension subforum bitching about a creaking noise from his SPC uppers. Turns out he's don't have zerks, but it reminded me about the conversation we had last year.

Seriously? Is there a oil plug there?

 

Not for OEM

 

Specific to the SPC adjustable uppers control arms.
There's a grease zerk on the upper ball joints. Just not on for the bushings, like JBA UCAs

 

Oh geeze, add that to the list! I'll give mine a looking over and try to get on that. I have a grease gun, use it on my mowers and trailer hubs.

Highly unlikely your truck has those grease zerks. That picture and what they're talking about is on an aftermarket part. The OEM equivalent part does not have grease zerks.

I wondered about that but then I thought that he might know something about his truck that we don't. After seeing some things on here, I don't assume anyone is running OEM anything anymore.

 

I OEM all the things!

I didn't do it but a previous owner (DMV says I'm owner #7!) put on some aftemarket shocks and the touchscreen radio (crappy) and backup camera (crappy) are not OEM.

 

Hell, the back up camera sounds like an upgrade to me.

The audio system is my next upgrade on the "Tundra to do list"

 

A back up camera is nice to have, but I still do the turn and look backwards method. I like the camera for getting close to things I can't see.

 

I almost learned the hard way with my CR-V camera that objects on the screen are much closer than they appear. Camera makes it look like you are a foot away when in actuality you are about an inch away. Plus, there is no beeping tone as you approach an object. It only beeps for cross-traffic warnings. I always look over my shoulder/mirrors except when I can't see over a vehicle backing out of a parking spot. That's when it is the most useful for me.

 

True, I made an assumption based on the fact he has an old man truck which usually have stock UCAs.

 

I lost the zerk fitting on my driveshaft closest to the transmission. Ordered one from dealer and it doesn’t have threads on it. Anyone know how to install driveshaft zerks? Just push it in? thanks

 

Those are all different systems when it comes to the beeping and camera system.

The beeping when you approach an object is from the ultrasonic parking sensors. These are little circular sensors imbedded in the bumper cover.



The cross traffic alert system is tied in with the blind spot monitoring system. This is a different radar unit than the parking sensors and is located in the rear on either side of the lower quarter panels.



The rear camera is really just a camera with no additional functions. Unless you have the surround view option (birds eye camera system) then it would require calibration to the system if ever damaged.

 

Yeah, mine is a way different system to my wife's Sorento. Since I mostly drive the truck and CR-V, I'll just keep doing it the old fashioned way. lol

 

Box 2.0 looking nasty! Glued and brad nailed all joints. Added a brace since I’m using 1/2” MDF/HDF. Kicker Solabaric round 8” calls for 0.44cuft of airspace. This box is 0.456, minus the brace . Nailed it.

 

Interesting, im not sure about mine but ive removed one of my driveshaft zerks and it was threaded. So not sure!

 

Not all propeller shaft spider grease fittings are the same. Here is what I found in the FSM. Unfortunately, it's not very helpful. Even searching "spider"
