Differential and Transfer Case Fluid Change

I found this thread really helpful, so thought I'd add this tip. It worked OK for me. Rather than drop the transfer case skid plate, I just used a piece of metal tape to redirect the draining fluid.

Can someone confirm that the diff washers are as follows, with the described quantities;

rear diff:
Drain & fill

$14 12157-10010 Toyota Oil Drain Plug Crushable Steel Gaskets Set of 10 OEM 12157-10010

12157-10010 (2 washers)

Front diff:
Fill 12157-10010 (1 washer)
drian 90430-24003 (1 washer)

 

Yup, these are correct. I'll be doing my front/rear diffs tomorrow using the washers as listed.

 

This is how I get the fluids in. Big for the differentials, small for the transfer case.

According to SparksParts there is a new front diff drain washer, part # 90430-24017, the above is the old part number, but I believe it’s still the same flat copper washer.

 

Weird, but not surprising that they’d change a part number and create additional SKUs for (presumably) identical items.

But, yes. You’ll need (3) of one, and (1) of the other for the diff’s. T-case just uses 3/4” pipe plugs. Up to you if you’re comfortable using a couple wraps of Teflon tape or a dab of pipe dope. Some folks have concerns about Teflon in the case, but it won’t happen if you wrap the plugs correctly. …don’t wrap the first thread…
