Best way to route fuse tap into fuse box?

Okay, you have an accessory that requires you to tap into the fuse box. You know which direction to install the fuse tap for continuity but you are afraid to cut the fuse housing to run your wire because you don’t want to void your warranty if moisture or dust gets in. What’s the best course of action here?

I have searched the forum and Google and couldn’t find anything that made me comfortable. Wish there was an aftermarket fuse cover that was waterproofish. But I assume they would be under some legal challenges if it were to fail. What are your suggestions?

Are you needing it to jump off a specific fuse?

I found some empties that I added a fuse to. I did this to each of the boxes under the hood. I know the interior one is tight but haven’t needed to do anything add-a-fuse wise on interior yet.

I just fished a wire up the bottom opening where the other main loom came in on each. I have some pics showing this on my under hood lighting write-up and bed lighting write-up if you wanna check it out.

I’ve seen a few people install these smaller fuse adaptors and they are small enough to allow the fuse box lid to be stilll used

My main concern is running the wire into the fuse box through the plastic housing. How do you maintain a seal if I cut into the fuse box to run a wire? I get I can just drill a whole but would rather like something a bit more water/dust proof.

I notched a lip on the fuse box itself and sat the wire there....the lid just sits on top and pushes the wire down just a bit to form a quasi-seal.

This is exactly what I did on mine to avoid pinching the wire.

You can also feed the wire thru the bottom of the fuse box, via where the rest of the wires enter the fuse box. It’s a tight fit but doable.

^^This. You can also drill a hole in the cover and get a rubber plug that fits the hole and has a hole premade in the center of the plug. Run the wire through the plug and then insert the rubber plug into the hole. Seals nicely.
