I just got my new used 2002 AC yesterday and found an odd issue with the door function.

When I lock the driver side main door, I can pull on the rear AC door handle and both doors pull away from the cab an inch or two. I am figuring I will be told to adjust a striker or latch somewhere but wanted guidance if anyone had experienced this.

Passenger side works as I expected it should, it does not pull away from cab when locked.

    thanks in advance!

So the front door latches to the back door, but the back door isnt latching to the cab? From inside, if you push on the driver door do the doors move that inch without pulling any handles?

Pics of the hoop along the roofline where the passenger door snaps into would be super helpful.

I realize we don't have any significant latching info in the everything-you-must-fucking-know-to-own-a-1st-gen thread. It's possible, in your case, someone contorted the latching rod inside the affected door, or the plastic clip that locks that bar to the latch is shot, or the bar is just flopping around inside the door.

There is some little piece that seems loose on the driver's side rear door. On the passenger side it is spring loaded and stays in place. I don't know what this plastic piece does.

This is what it looks like on the passenger rear door.

I'm not quite sure how I should be testing all of the strikers and latch mechanisms. Maybe one of those is not doing its job holding the door in place.

Might have to take door card off and if you take it off, you might find you can put the spring back in. It might be in bottom of door. Might even need to take passenger side off to see what’s missing on drivers side.

There are two door strikes per door on the AC trucks. @The Black Mamba outlines both of them with pictures here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/wha...-gen-tundra-today.2558/page-1932#post-3538245

The 2nd one, popping out of the roofline plastics, was the 1st culprit I thought of after reading your 1st post.

In that reply I just linked to, TBM is showing how some people fix their door rattles, by simply wrapping the strike/hoop with a little bit of tape where the door latch grabs the strike/hoop.

But generally speaking, if you're having issues with the rear door not latching correctly, that strike higher up, jutting out of the plastics, is where I'd be investigating.

The part that's broken... I want to say that's called a "cancel" or something to that effect. I've looked it up on here before. This was that reply, if it helps, but it's for a 2006. You can pop your part out, and use a magnifying glass, you should find a part number embossed on the part to confirm: https://www.tundras.com/threads/access-cab-rear-door-wont-open.152900/#post-3809574

You can likely order it for pickup from your local dealership using the links I provided in that reply. Those will take you to the national Toyota Parts program, which many local dealers participate in, and they usually knock 20%+ off the cost (if you order directly at any dealer counter, they charge full MSRP ... start the order online, you typically get a nice discount)

it def feels like the front driver door isn't quite as latched as the passenger side. I don't know how that affects the rear door not being locked in a way to fix this issue but something I noticed today while cleaning up the new rig. I haven't messed with taking the doors apart yet but realize it may help me understand the issue. If you still want to see the latch on the roofline I will get some pics, but it looks solid and not sure what I'm looking for in a misalignment.
