Ya, the "s" just means you get to "select" the highest gear that the truck will shift to. I wanted it to actually be shifting to the gear selected when you select it. But I guess it's for safety and protection of the truck and occupants. I drove a Charger and was playing with the paddle shifters. I was only going like 30mph and bumped it to 8th gear (highest). It chugged like a manual trans car would going too slow in a high gear. I didn't know how to get it out of man. shift mode, so I put it in neutral then back to drive. Crisis averted. This was the 1st time driving it and it wasn't mine.

An intersting point made here and something I tried today. I came to a full stop at my normal leave the neighborhood route and today I pulled the shifter into “s”. The dash said “s4”. I manually adjusted to s1 and there was no lag which happens every time previously in “d” mode. Odd that the truck feels it needs to start out in what I think is 4th gear but definetly noteworthy. I am not a gear head just sharing my experience.

that’s not what’s happening there , it defaults to 4th as a limit high gear when you do that . It does not mean your in 4th gear

^that. If you at a complete stop for however long you want. Slide it to S and I doubt it'll say 1. I haven't actually done this though or at least not intentionally.

Might as well just trade this mofo for a Prius then…hoping the new engine presents differently if I ever get my number called.

For those of us playing catch-up, is T-SB-0111-22 (MC-10230373-9999.pdf) the most current for solution for the lag issue? I couldn't find anything specifically stating that the applicability been broadened to include all gen 3 years. My truck is a '24 and occasionally has this issue.

Yes. Nothing else has been released with a direct callout for the hesitation issue.

The recall for movement while in neutral helped for a period of time, but ultimately the hesitation came back.

Anything after a mid-2023 model year production date has the updated calibration installed. While it helped for a little while, it ultimately returned for most everyone who has the TSB performed.

OK, I'm back to thinking the tranny is slipping then.
    I didn't the scan tool
Couldn't Toyota have the dash readout show EXACTLY what gear the truck is in .... and still have gear limits and a gear range in the background?

I'm not debating that the dash readout is not the gear you are in at that moment because it would be beyond stupid for the truck to be in 3rd or 4th gear when at a complete stop
....but I am debating that Toyota designers we smart to display it this way.

Just another dumbness for no reason and still doesn't explain the tranny slip or downshift or whatever I'm getting every morning.

Transmission is not slipping. It is a delay in it downshifting all the way to 1st gear.

There is a TSB out for the Tundra HV & Sequoia HV starting out in 2nd gear, even when doing it manually downshifting with the shifter.

It'd be nice if they would do that. My old boss had a 2013 F150. His I believe, always displayed 1-10 and would high-light whichever gear it was in. I thought it was neat and was disappointed when my 2014 Tundra couldn't.

finding your posts super helpful and am of the mind to try and manually reset the TCU with the learning procedure you've outlined above. Is this the full procedure or is there a TIS export somewhere that has all specific steps?

I don't have much hesitated acceleration from a stop - normally. I have some very weird shift behavior under moderate throttle where it seems (to me) the TC sticks and has a hard time unlocking in the lower gears. Lately I've found myself with a heavier foot so I don't have to feel what, to me, feels like a transmission going out. I haven't pulled the fill plug to check the color of the trans fluid YET, but I'll be shocked if it's not dirty with only 11k on the truck...

Mine did start after I drove about 150 miles with 3,000 in tow in tow mode. But since then I've had 2 weird (unable to replicate) instances where I've put the truck in drive and it doesn't move. The RPM's don't bounce as though it's in N though, seems it's under load when that's happened - but nothing moves... I have also seen a couple of FB posts with folks having this behavior when their trans went out. I will be taking mine to the dealer in the next couple of weeks and will report back nonetheless.

To me, it feels more mechanical than software related. My '17 Tacoma was plagued by poor trans code for the first couple of years I owned it, until they finally figured out the calibration. After that, the trans worked great for the next ~150k I drove it. I hope my issue is that simple but it doesn't feel like it. I also get LOUD metal on metal sounds when I put it in park sometimes - so much so that, with the windows down, my better half said "it sounds like your fancy truck is breaking.."

You can try the battery pull for 30 minutes or more to try to reset the trans memory, but the specific routine is in GTS+.
