So I bought my tundra about 6 months ago and it looked great. I have someone in the family that’s an auto body tech come out before I bought it and he said that there’s still plenty of life in the frame. It passed inspection just fine. Today I was looking and found this right where the front dealt leaf springs mounts are. The first few pictures are of the drivers side and the last few are the passenger side. Is there an easy way to patch it, is there something I can bolt in or should I have it professionally done or is it noting I should really worry about right now and just coat it in paint. The rest of the frame is perfect. Some rust but noting I concerned about. I am going to coat it with por 15 in the summer. Thanks

YIKES. I passed on a truck that had far less rust right at that spot. To me once the metal starts separating there's no return. That needs to be professionally fixed. It's literally crumbling apart...what is there to bolt on to for a fix? lol

That is not minor. POR is not going to help you. Surprised it would pass a state inspection. Looks like a few hammer blows would break the frame apart and buckle that leaf mount.
I dont think I would drive it, looks like that leaf mount could break at any moment. Now what is spooky is what you can't see! Frames corrode from the inside.

Ill let other chime on on the repair. I have no idea if that can be cut out and new frame sectioned in. Probably cheaper and easier to find a parts truck w a better frame?

Trust me, you need to see an optometrist as soon as possible.

Wishful thinking on the POR…that’s in pretty bad shape. I’m no “rust” expert but I do know it’s like cancer, once it starts it’s hard to stop other than cutting it out and replacing. Wish I could give you some positive feedback but I’d be concerned with it. Maybe I’m just way off base with my opinion.

That's rusty. It's rusty in some critical spots too. I wouldn't be afraid to drive it, but I don't think I would haul anything at max capacity or do any unnecessary off camber driving.

    At least you passed inspection!

Gee, I'd be scared to put a load in that bed. It's ready to crumble. And I wouldn't trust your family member for anything similar again.
