Hello, I have a question for all the Tundra audio experts here.

I was having the audio system in my 2020 crewmax w/ JBL upgraded the other day and ran into an issue with the Factory HU. All of the speakers were replaced and DSP amps were installed. They were using a PAC-AP4TY12 for the line converter. On system startup, everything worked except volume control on both the HU and the steering wheel control. They monkeyed with it for a couple of hours and could never get it to work. I'm pretty novice with all this so I don't know exactly what all they tried but I know they tried doing some resets on the HU, messed with the Dip Switches on the PAC and I think they tried a couple different AP4 models as well. In the end, I just had them install a HU and problem solved.

My question is, did they miss something that these JBL systems specifically need to make the factory HU work with new amps/speaker or do you think the HU just got fried?

Here is the manual if you don't have it.

#5 Did they leave the OEM amp in the truck?

In all honesty, you're probably better off with the new HU, but it sucks you were pressured into buying it..

I honestly have no idea if they left the JBM amp in or not. If it was under the Pass seat, its most definitely gone.

Yes it would be under the passenger's seat..

I don't know anything about the PAC-AP4TY12 LOC, I was just reading through the manual to see if I could find anything to help...

Although with your JBL, I believe volume, left/right balance, and front/rear fade are all controlled by the OEM amp and not the HU.
It is one thing that makes upgrading a JBL Tundra more challenging than a non-JBL Tundra.

So to answer your question there are three different jbl headunits for these year tundras. The pac will work on some and not others. The most bullet proof and straight forward way is to use the maestro/rockford dsr1. The pac is really hit or miss. I had a guy swear up and down it would work but others were saying what you’re saying. BUT….. I went with the dsr1 route and finally gave up messing with the system when the head unit started acting up. Put a kenwood floating head unit in and wondered why I waited so long. If you really like music you’ll never be happy with the stock head unit.
Ultimately your where you would have wound up in 6 months from now even if it had worked.

Thanks gents. Im good with ditching the factory HU, was just trying to stop the bleeding from all the other stuff I put it. I guess the Buy Once, Cry Once method was just meant to be. I was not prepared to choose a HU in the heat of the moment and I ended up with the stinger HIGH10. It works and the system sounds amazing but too much lost in terms of integration. I am going back next week to swap it for the dnr1007xr / maestro setup.

@lamsecond, I see from some other post that you are running this HU. Do you have any good side profile shots of the install?

I don’t but I will be out and about today and I’ll grab a few. This hu is awesome. I really love the size and the way it functions. You will not regret it.

Mine has done this before. I have stock JBL hu with dsr1. I have to unplug dsr1 and reboot everything and it works.

Here are a couple of my DMX1057XR. Pretty much the same screen. My HU just doesn't come with navigation.

If you want a different angle I don't mind taking a few more pics

Thanks! I’d like to see what the gap looks like between the screen and the dash. If you can side shot from 3 o’clock that would be awesome.

Perfect! Thank you very much. The stinger HU I have in there now is nice and tight to the dash but it covers the climate control panel. I hate it.

No problem! I opted for this look, but you should be able to adjust it closer to the dash. Enjoy the new head unit!:bananadance:
