That’s no problem! You’ve chosen cheap, now you get one more choice. Fast, or right?

The fun part is that all three of the attributes in my smartass post are absolutely subjective.

I didn’t pay $2K, but it also took most of a week to get it done. You could say I chose cheap and right. Still didn’t feel cheap! Definitely wasn’t fast. They’re still together though.

Hope you get what you need!

2k isn’t bad at all after seeing other people post their charges. Getting the install done right isn’t something you want to be frugal about

I’d pay $2k to have it done right. Noisy gears are infuriating. And to do it over would be over more. But quality product. Pay a knowledgeable experienced person a fair price to install and enjoy the benefits. Or take short cut and bitch about it forever afterwards.

noisy gears is because of the gears, not the install. to make them quieter they need machined a bit. you paid extra for the machining. i dont care as my truck is loud to begin with (SC and 3" exhaust)

I’d say this is partially accurate.

A quality set of gears that are poorly set up can be noisy.

A crap set of gears will typically be noisy, but the extent of this may be affected by the install. A good installer will often have a few tricks up his sleeve that will reduce the irritation of cheap gears.

Kinda like how a good alignment guy can make your big tires fit…

I’ve read complaints of noise on seemingly every brand of gears installed by a variety of allegedly highly experienced installers. There seems to be a degree of luck in regards to the noise. Just do a search for gear noise related posts on here or the Tacoma forums and you can read for quite a while on the subject. Fingers crossed I have the luck on my side.

I’d agree with this. I can’t think of a single set of aftermarket that run as silent as OEM. Some are quiet, but not THAT quiet.

Speaking from my own experience as someone who has taken apart a quiet running gear set to install a locker and reinstall the same gear set…noise can absolutely be generated from the install….then find someone to show me what I did wrong and the gears are suddenly quiet again.

So 1000% a good set of gears can be made noisy by an inferior install.

I have every tool to properly install ring and pinion and press on and remove bearings correctly but I lack the skill/experience/knowledge. So hence I’d pay someone who I know would do a good job a $2k sum of dollah bills yo to do it right!

After speaking with Zuk. He's spending more rime to get it dead on, more so than before. Some gears noisy but in reality shouldnt. He saw my pics of the pattern that were really good. Had some noise. Reason he suggested getting them REM'd and going a tad shallower on the 5.29.
My front 5.29 are noise free and I've been driving g in 4x for 700 miles now.

My approach is much others here; spend the coin and get the best shop for the work. I'm budgeting $6k for premium 5.29's new bearings, e locker and complete install.

I was around $3750 total for REM'd Revolution 5.29s and a powertrax, with me pulling the diffs and taking them to ZUK for the setup. $5-6k sounds high, but I guess it depends on the labor charge and your local options.

My Sierra gears and master install kits were $2100 shipped from dirtydeeds and the install was around that as well. I was in it for 4k or a little under.

My idea is to drop my truck off and come back with it complete. I don't have the time or know-how to drop diffs and bring them to a shop. We did the suspension work on our own, but that's about the limits to my skill set.

I had a 21 tundra with 33 inch e rated wildpeaks and currently have a 16 with 35 inch e rated dynamo at2 extremes and there is a pretty big noticeable difference, on my 33 inch tundras if you gave it a little gas it would throw you back into your seat on this one not so much at all and there feels like no top end power
Once I save enough I will regear with a rear e locker

Are you sold on a E locker ? Speedmaster rear end sure is fun if you haven’t researched it.
