Kinda , it’s a drive mode that changes the fuel map, trans shifting , shocks, etc.

    it also has tow/haul separately

it’s fun, also comfort drive mode rides awesome when you want that kinda thing

    Words have meanings. Facts matter.

Not my fault you can’t comprehend that posi(traction) and limited slip are the same thing…one is simply a brand name…and will behave in exactly the same way.

He mentioned his window sticker says limited slip differential. I have been wondering if this is causing my truck to feel like I am in 4WD at times with a bucking feel. I am going to look at my Monroney label I purchased on my used 2022 Limited. I found it on my label, “auto limited slip differential” Hmmmm, makes me wonder. Maybe I will take it out and disable traction control to test one or both tires spinning.

Differences between LSD (aka posi) and locker is a LSD will allow tires to spin at different speeds (for turning) when not under torque. Whereas a locker, both wheels are mechanically locked at same rotation speed.

I am still wondering why I will rarely feel what I would expect when in 4WD like bucking.

It is not a true LSD. The sticker says Auto lsd which for Toyota is an open differential that applies the brake to one wheel causing the other to gain traction. It's not 100% but does help out but not how a true lsd would.

Sorry for double posting different quotes. This would be turned off with traction control turned off then, correct?

My plan to turn it off and see if one or two tracks are laid down.

You don't have a mechanical LSD because Toyota doesn't sell one. Its purely sofware based that stops the spinning wheel with the brake so that the tire not spinning can get traction. No idea why they decided to call it Auto LSD on this model other than to confuse people. It literally has noting to do with the Diff because it uses the brakes stopping a wheel with no traction. Toyota used to call it A-trac on previous models like tacoma, 4runner, etc.

Toyota has a electronically actuated mechanical locker on TRD models that can be engaged in 4low and that is the only mechanical locker for a 3ed gen Tundra.

By all means go burn up some tires with one wheel peels, when the brake actuated LSD kicks in hopefully you don't snap anything or cook your brakes. Might want to try it in the dirt rather than the street.

I don't know about the auto-LSD effect but the last time I needed to gain speed in a hurry (was at a stop light and needed the adjacent lane within 1 block), I mashed the throttle about 1/3 at the green light and both rear wheels were burning rubber which was totally unintended. It was a dry blacktop road (factory highway tires) so I wasn't expecting a burn-out. It put a smile on my face realizing how much power these truck have.

Most definitely the sign of a limited slip differential. Again, one true way to find out. lol

Well heck darn it. Just a single tire spun. That is absurd for Toyota to advertise with wording of limited slip differential. The braking is what also called “traction control”. I really don’t understand how they can get away with that.

That's how the Alsd works in 2nd video. First video they say locker so not sure if its a center or rear?
To settle it like was mentioned above. Put it in alsd and do a full on burnout. A true lsd uses clutches or gears to lockup the differential not by braking one tire. See if ecu pulls throttle back or can you keep pedal through it. In my 07 I could power through the engine cut and do burnouts in Alsd. Have they changed the Alsd setup? Anyone regear a 3rd Gen to see the rear differential?
I don't have a 3rd Gen and only looked over some of the features.

Glad to see the visual proof in the video finally helped you catch onto the fact that none of us were speculating on the existence of a mechanical LSD.
