Just got back from a safety check at a random shop (which I passed) but they gave me a laundry list of repairs. They quoted me about $8,500 if I get everything repaired. I am trying to figure out what is required and what I could hold off on or just leave. I plan on taking it elsewhere for repairs and getting a second opinion but wanted to ask here too.
I got my timing belt replaced at around 160k miles. I live in a major city if pricing seems high.
Generally it seems to drive fine and I have never had any issues with it. The A/C doesn't work and I was hoping to get that fixed too.

    Repairs:
Replace Both Valve Cover Gaskets & Spark Plugs: $1122
BG Brake System Fluid Exchange: $199
BG Engine Cooling System Flush: $209
Replace Timing Belt Kit & Thermostat w/ gasket: $1783
    Replace Both Front Axles: $1373
    WHEEL ALIGNMENT: $99
BG Power Steering System Fluid Exchange: $189
    Replace Rack and Pinion: $1924
    BG Fuel/Air Induction Service: $239
Remove & Replace Valve Cover Gasket: $1841
Remove & Replace CV Axle Assembly: $1559
Replace Front Sway Bar Links: $639 (I just replaced these myself but live in a high rise so I am limited in what I can fix myself)

Wow wee, that eagle titties high. It looks like they got you twice on a few of those things with valve covers and front axles. Usually you can just snug down the bolts on the valve covers and stop the leaks for a bit, but replacing the gaskets and spark plugs is cake. We'd need pics to see. I'm betting your CV boots are slit and slinging grease. They could be shot though. We'd need pics to see. same thing on the steering rack. Could just be loose bellows and/or bad tie rod ends. We'd need pics to see.

Get us some pics of these areas and we can give you a better run down. How are you mechanically? Got some tools? Not a lot of space though living at a high rise. What area do you live in and can you find a good independent Toyota/Lexus tech? I'd take it there to get a second opinion.

My slave cylinder is also leaking. I have some tools and a friend with more (and more mechanically inclined). I can follow youtube videos well enough. Like KNABORES said once the weather improves we can tackle a lot of the repairs

I have a lot of reading to do. I will have to find a reputable repair shop for a few of these things.

I can confidently say my LBJ haven't been replaced so I will add that to the list.

I hope you find a good local shop. Just had what I call the big 3 (Timing Belt Kit, LBJ, Radiator) done to mine and I also had some additional items (Tail gate latch and an O2 Sensor). After adding my cost to that of the mechanics my all in repairs were $2600. He also used Genuine Toyota LBJs, Denso Radiator, AISIN Timing Belt Kit, and although it doesn’t specify, he used a Denso O2 sensor. My valve cover gaskets look identical and I didn’t even consider having that work done yet. I’m not losing enough oil to drip or add between changes so I’m ok with the status quo for now. I know I’m here in the mid-West where prices are much cheaper but maybe this helps. Here is my invoice:IMG_0790.jpg

My mechanic (just outside of Philly) charges about $1100 for T-belt work, he uses AISIN kit from Worldpak.

OP, you might be able to bring the truck to a mechanic for nearly all the work, but save some money if you purchase and supply the parts yourself. I always do this when I have to bring any of my cars to a mechanic. Not only does this avoid the upcharge on parts, but also allows me to provide the exact part that I want on my truck. We can help you find exactly what you need here.

There's also a bunch of things on that list that you can postpone until warmer weather. Timing belt, LBJs, and CV axles all require immediate attention. But the other items like the coolant flush, valve cover gaskets, or sway bar links can be postponed for a few months until it's warmer and you can do them yourself.

My truck was manufactured 03/03 according to the sticker on my door. I am looking at LBJs and saw this post: https://www.tundras.com/threads/lbj-question.154344/#post-3839655 and this post https://www.tundras.com/threads/lower-ball-joints-part-numbers.97100/.

According to autoparts.toyota.com both of these part fit, although I am not sure what the difference is. From the first post these wouldn't fit.
According to the second post this is the LBJ I need, but ourismantoyota won't tell me if it fits or not:
    Anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone have specific recommendations for CV axle? This post used napa but there are clearly strong opinions on OEM for LBJs so wondering if there are similar opinions for CV axle?
    Thanks

Please see this informative reply from @BubbaW, the tool he suggests here in reply #5 should help you narrow it down: https://www.tundras.com/threads/lbj-question.154344/#post-3839655

I DO NOT recommend using the Toyota Parts system to look up your parts. Please, use the EPC tool suggested in the sticky thread section.

It's very common in the parts system to have multiple parts. For example, here's one I found recently, where the person had a 2003 truck, but his driver door sticker showed it was manufactured in August 2002. Unfortunately, as you'll see in the EPC, that was the EXACT month Toyota changed production on the LBJ, one part was for trucks built up to August 2002, the other starts with trucks built in August 2002. This is why tools like the one Bubba linked are so vital to figuring out the right part.
