I dropped a valve in my SC Sequoia. As it has 143k I decided to get a low mile motor (70k) and swapped it in.

While I was in there I replaced the alternator, starter, waterpump, sensors, torque converter (all OEM) and plugs, coils etc.

Now I have massive missing. Initially, there were other odd system glitches (loss of O2 reporting, throttle position, etc)

The shop went through the wiring & all toned ok, yet 1&3 are still missing.

The shop says it is the injectors, I have a new set coming but in the event the issue remains I'm hoping someone can help.

Anyone have anything like this happen?

Did you use the original trucks harness and sensors? Or the donor? Or a mix? Sometimes Toyota swaps pins around in harnesses during year and model changes.

Do you have compression test results for this new-to-you motor? Perhaps the seller provided you some? Or you or this shop doing the work checked it since it's been installed?

We used the '13 harness, and ECU that was there, compression was over 200, excellent leak down in all cylinders. Oddly at first the misfiring was initially only in cylinder 1.

In that case, (and for your sake)I hope the shop is right and @KNABORES is wrong, because if they changed some pin locations that could be a real PIA.

Did you pull the sensors from yours and put them on the new motor or reuse them all? Had a similar issue when we replaced my BILs 6.2 in his GMC. 12 codes and rough running. Mostly fuel and misfire. Swapped the fuel rail and injectors over from the original motor and it all went away. Harness on the donor had some brittle broken, and apparently shorting wires. Many FGT owners find that same engine, same configuration in a different year model / drive train, or cab config has some wiring differences. Tundra to Sequoia may certainly have some of those, but no first hand experience with those years.

All sensors were replaced (using '13 part numbers) The damage to the donor truck was on the driver side & the cam solenoids were sheared off along with the harness so we used my '13 harness.

    Not buffing out.

Seems more than coincidence that the damage side is the one creating problems. If there was enough force to shear off the vvt solenoids, I would be worried that something in the valvetrain may have been messed up.

There is no visible damage on the head, the solenoid ends/connectors are plastic, I hope it's not a valvetrain issue and would think if it were something starting at the actuators there would be more issues with all four cylinders as well as cam timing issues.

    Something to consider though, thanks.

I searched & asked the shop, seems there would be timing/cam CELs if there were valvetrain issues, the only code is misfire.

He is refusing to do anything until the injectors come, he is saying he has too much time into labor. (I bet he only wants to r&r 1 & 3), I have 8 new injectors coming as they are a matched set.

I'm ready to yank it & have someone else fix it & if necessary sue for whatever that costs as he returned it "done" 2 weeks ago, it has gone back 3x.

    It's never been properly done.

Not all valve trane problems throw codes. In fact, most don’t. Yes, a problem with cam timing on a vvt engine will throw codes, but that would also affect all four cylinders. I have no real idea what your problem is. Just noting the coincidence that the left front of the engine area sustained serious damage and that same area is now giving you problems. A tough correlation to ignore. Maybe the head got cracked in that area. That drops compressions and you get misfires. Could be as simple as cracked spark plugs or coils. The 1 & 2 coils are pretty close to the vvt solenoid

Oddest thing is the sporadic nature of the issues.

I'm hoping their guess of injectors is right. If not all that is left is vacuum leak or valvetrain issues seeing as they claim to have ruled out wiring.

Injectors are out for delivery, I find out this afternoon if that's it.

No input after dropping the injectors at the shop except they were wrong. I explained they are different but work, that cost 3 hours. He drove it home so at least it runs.

Got it back, feels good, need to send logs out & see if any changes are needed before I really get on the gas.

That's all they said they changed. Seems odd, but as long as it works, I don't care.

I wonder if something in the harness was crossed - either way I’m glad it’s back and running!

I'm thinking some wire was stretched, broken, etc & they fixed it.

He got very defensive when I said there was never an electrical issue & now there is. All I care about is it is running great, I have an OEM sensor coming about 4 & I'll put it in, hopefully that is that.

Snivilous tuned the truck & it's running great!

Hopefully, I'm done for years seeing as I replaced almost everything!
