I wouldn't go down that rabbit hole. I have never worried about checking the level of the truck when measuring fluids. Park on a remotely level surface and check it. Toyota didn't change the plug location for the TRD Pro which comes lifted from the factory so unless your truck has a massive rake/Carolina squat going on then the range of acceptable angles that the plug is good for should cover any lift/level combination your suspension has.

That's what I thought. I haven't done mine yet, but I was just planning to park it on my level garage floor and be done with it.

I personally use a magnetic bubble level on the ATF pan but I also have stopped checking the fluid level and just put 4qts in and call it day. Ill probably check the level one more time after I install my cooler from genuinecoolingsystems.com though.

If you haven't done it yet, I would measure what you take out and just add the same back.

That is what I have done on 2 Tacomas and the Tundra. It has worked fine for me. I jacked around with the jumper trying to get the one Tacoma in to check mode and gave up.

Whatever this forum told me to do

    agreed.

    I did mine last weekend.

drained it - 3.8 qts came out
    pinned the trans thermo
filled it with 4.5 qts of valvoline...
    ran it for 10 minutes...scanguage showed 110
drained it, via check drain, till it trickled.
    sealed it up.

I left out the part about cussing while taking off the Vahalla cat plates.

Here is another video I referenced when I did my Sequoia. I like this guy, The Car Care Nut, good content.

I did 2 drain and fills at about 4.5 quarts each. On the last one I did the jumper cable to get D highlighted on the driver dash when shifting between Drive and Neutral. I then drained the standpipe to a trickle to get the correct fluid level.

The jumper cable is actually really easy to do. You can practice ahead of time to understand the method to see how it stays on while shifting into other gears. If it doesn’t remain constant, you’re to hot. If it doesn’t come on at all while in another gear, you’re not warm enough.

Exactly my thoughts. Plus putting a metal paper clip in the OBD2 port seems risky to me. So I now own a Scan Gauge 2 for a reasonable amount of money $$ considering all the data it provides and instantly ntm all the codes it reads if ever on the road you'll know what the possible problem is. Anyhow at 240k I'll be replacing my atf very soon.
It seems to be the safest way to remove 90-95% of the Old AT fluid Vs using High pressure vacuum or pressure that can dislodge chunks of debris clogging the valve body and destroy the tranny.
You can see the flow rate on a few videos of the fluid circuit it really is slow and safe vs when the motor is racing or connected to a high pressure extraction machine.
And if you must even the simple pan and filter drop and refill then a eazy fluid drain and 3.5 qt refill is certainly safe.
Either way I'm determined to change my atf from black to Cherry Kool Aid red
    God willing.

B careful and expect broken bolts if u change the filter. I would skip that part. I did this recently and used a scan tool that plugs into obd2 connector and shows trans temps. Also a funnel taped to a 3/4 plastic hose made filling up from top so much easier. One more piece of advice break not only the fill plug. But also the overflow, because I drained first and filled and then went to adjust level and that plug scared me a bit because it was stubborn
