Bed and Topper Modifications/Enhancements

I sometimes sleep in the back of my 2006 RCLB, so I fabricated a bed frame out of 2" square tubing and covered it in plywood, then put a custom mattress on it. The 2" tubing fits the bed corrugations perfectly and it never moves even if I go off roading.

 

When I go shopping, I pile my plunder in the back of the bed because the topper prevents placing it near the cab unless I climb inside. I had a 2x6 in the factory rear slot to keep the plunder from sliding forward when I stop. I just didn't have enough room so I created a custom slot a little forward of where the factory rear slot is. Now I can carry more plunder. It's just a sectioned piece of 2" square tubing and sheet metal screws holding them in place.

 

In cool weather I leave my dog in the back of my truck with windows open, but the poor girl just doesn't understand what screens are for and busts through them. I bought some 1/4" hardware cloth and made screen protectors for them. I just removed the screws in back with a 1/4" socket and slapped the hardware cloth in place and put the screws back in.

 

I looked around for roof racks to install on fiberglass toppers and thought they were too expensive and cumbersome. I built my own out of stainless steel for my 2004 RCLB. Total cost $108 including stainless welding rods.

 

Back in 2000 I built similar racks for this topper when it was on my 2000 RCLB. Now that topper resides on my 2006.
I use stainless 1/4" bolts through the roof, but instead of just using washers underneath, I built plates with tie downs and on the front a clothes rack.
