Anyone else with the basic rear view mirrors having their mirror caps pop off? Neither of mine were tight when I got the truck and the carwash just broke one of mine off. They only have a few weak mounting points from the factory, I think when I replace them i'm going to have to glue them on.

Have a SR5 also with same mirrors but no problems so far. As for using car wash I avoid the automatic ones and just do it myself. Had one many years ago scratch my paint which the owner paid to have fixed but still a pain in the ass to have to take it to a paint shop and all. After that I've just use the manual stalls and do it myself. As for the glue thing, I don't know, that's kind of a one way ticket and if it doesn't go well or you ever have to address an issue there you could end up with a mess. Just shooting from the hip here. Maybe some thin double stick 3m tape in the areas where the clips latch. Not sure if they even make something like that. Just a thought.

Turns out the mirror covers are backordered several weeks so this may be a wide spread issue. I went ahead and purchased my own cover but I think i'm going to have to document this with my dealership in case it happens again. What sucks is now I need to put a bag over the mirror (on a brand new truck) when it rains because I don't want water going down into the door panel via the hole that the powered mirror cable passes through. Alot of people complain about cheap bits on their tundras and this part is no exception.

They are just snap together trucks, whatever is quickest on the assembly line. In less than every minute, a new truck is born. Sucks that some things don't hold up very well.

I have this exact problem with both the driver side and, more recently, the passenger side mirror when I go through a car wash. I always fold the mirrors in before entering. If the mirror remains folded in throughout the wash, I haven't had a problem. However, the action of the car wash will often return the mirror to the normal (unfolded) position. if this happens, it is likely that the cover will come loose. The problem is that the mirrors will not remain folded in. In my opinion there is too little tension (friction) on the pivot mechanism to hold the mirror in the folded position. I have brought this to the attention of my dealer, but have not been provided a solution. The service department seemed unaware that this might be a problem. The service manager did mention that he would research the problem by looking into an internal database that Toyota maintains.

My daughter has a similar truck and her mirrors are equally loose. However, she has not had the covers come off like I have.

I have the same issue started with the passenger side and I attempted to glue it together and it held up for a while but it started to do it again. One of the clips is broken on mine and has been like that since I purchased it.

I found a solution that at least allows me to go through a car wash without the mirrors opening up. As previously noted, I don't have a problem if the mirrors stay folded while in the car wash. I fold the mirror in and stretch a super heavy duty rubber band into the crack (see photo) between the stationary part and the moveable part. This seems to add just enough friction that I've not experienced the previous problem of the mirrors opening up while in the car wash.

    YMMV
