I just bought a new to me 2004 4.7 V8 2wd with 165K miles for $1000. It needs some suspension work. I've read what I could as far as the need to go OEM lower ball joints, which has been ordered among other things. I am looking at lift kits and came across the Eibach Stage 1 kit with JBA UCA's.

I tow and I need to retain that factory rake. Does anyone know if the kit retains the rake?

Since you tow and want to retain. The rake. You'll need to look into rear leafs or air bags as well.

I want to see what a $1000 truck looks like. My guess is it's in need of more than just suspension.

    I'll post some pics later.

After reading that thread, the optimal wheel size is 17x8.5 +0 with 4.75 backspacing. I messed up. I jumped the gun and bought a set of 17x8.5 +25mm wheels. Can I get away with +25 or should I just return the wheels?

Return wheels. 5.73" backspace will have your tires sitting on top of the coils before the truck touches the ground, unless you buy 1" spacers. I wouldn't want to run spacers while towing, unless you're anal-retentive about hand-torquing to ensure you don't crack a spacer like @KNABORES.

If anyone else ever touches your wheels, I wouldn't go there. Impact jockeys at the tire store DGAF and will blast shit down at 150+ and crack your shit to bits.

How in the hell did you land on that wheel size? I didn't even think anyone sold wheels with that backspacing for the old style of Toyota 6-lug (6x139.7 / 6x5.5) with a 106.1 hub bore.

Hub bore is important too, btw. There's a reason to stick with Toyota specific wheels. And you can't use newer (2023+?) 6-lug Toyota Tundra/Tacoma wheels because the hub bore is in the 90s. Requires custom hubcentric spacers.

I run spacers and tow with my FGT. They’ve been on there for 18 years or so. Zero issues. The cracked spacers I showed on here were some eBay specials on my son’s mustang. Moral: buy once cry once. Get the right wheels with correct offset / backspacing, or pay the money for quality spacers.

I've returned the wheels and ordered a new set, 17x8.5 +0MM 4.75 backspacing with a hub bore of 108mm.

Agreed. A hubcentric ring can accommodate.

Why not just order the correct hub bore. There are hundreds of options in wheel design with 106.1.

    you do you.

I just think it's crazy that you have the specs for our wheels at your finger tips and still ordered the incorrect hub bore.

This, over and over. I don’t understand why this is so difficult. Just the correct wheels for your truck! I’m failing to understand why you’d add the extra complexity/potential issues.

Definitely. I’d do it if steel spacers, not alloy. But better yet, just order the right offset wheel and keep on trucking.

Spacers are good for when you like the factory wheel setup, but need to accommodate a wider tire (prevent rubbing the UCA or frame) or get the tires out closer to the fender edge for appearance sakes. If you’re buying new wheels though, just buy the right ones.
