Whining Noise on Start Up - SAIS Bypass Kit?

Well, just recently started noticing a high frequency whine, high pitch noise when firing up my ‘06 from a cold start, sounds like a vacuum shutting off after 30 seconds or so. Research says SAIS failure or, at the very least, on its way out.

Before I get a Check Engine Light or limp mode, should I go ahead and do the bypass kit? If so, is Hewitt-Tech the best option?

Price isn’t a big concern, I’ve put so much into this truck I’m not cheaping out at this point, just want to do it right and move along.

Seen numerous folks mention good results with that kit. Forum search for SAIS brought up a thread from last summer....The dreaded Secondary Air Injection issue on my 1st Gen, tips?

This tutorial/install pdf was an item I hung onto for later reference....

 

I squirreled that away too -- even thought I don't have a SAIS on my 2000.

Those DIY instructions will save $160 over the kit.

 

From readings, that looks like the proper kit. Best thing is do it right the first time as you’ve put so much into everything else. You are smart by tackling this issue now.

It works great and prevents your truck from going into limp mode and eliminates the air injectors.

I also added this proxy pack to eliminate any check engine lights from the secondary air system.

I purchased the rutech unit two years ago and it failed a few days ago. He doesnt answer messages so I assume he's out of business or doesnt give a flying fug for standing by his product. Hindsight being 20/20 I would've paid the extra few shekels and gone with Hewitts product, at least it has an unlimited warranty.

I just finished doing the DIY fix posted above and it works perfectly for about 15$ in supplies and an hours worth of time. No CEL and or whistling...the block off plates still need to be installed.

 

I know this is an old thread, but thought I would share my experience. 2006 4.7L V8. Was getting the whining sound at startup. then got a code 2440 and went into limp mode. By reading forums here, learned that it was most likely the pump fan getting broken up and lodges in the valve. Cleared the code and went on my merry way. Got ahold of the guys at Hewitt Tech (very quick response and helpful reply), and on his recommendation I ordered the Hewitt Tech Gen 2 kit for my truck (not fully necessary, but I live in cali, and wanted all my OBD flags clear). Anyhow, installed yesterday, and so far so good. Whining sound is gone, no codes. The only hard part was the block off plates - if you spray the studs with PB Blaster ahead of time, and take off the wheels to access the nuts, even that isn't so bad (no rust on mine). 10mm box end wrench or just the right medium size ratchet was helpful. took me about 3 hours including soldering and removing wheels.
