Have a 2018 Tundra and my head unit keeps either dropping decibels or off on the left rear speaker and occasionally effects the right. I can bring by shifting the balance to that speaker and cranking it up. It will come back balanced but will drop again sometime later. Anyway, I would like to replace with an OEM head unit. I would rather buy from a member who has swapped out their deck for an aftermarket than off of Ebay from a salvage yard. If you have one sitting around that is in mint condition, works perfectly and would be interested in selling reply back. Thanks.

Are you sure that isn't a speaker or underseat amp issue?
Have you pulled the rear door panel and checked the connections?
Have you checked the connections at the amp plugs?

I understand why you don't want an aftermarket HU, but it would be the best option.
    Good luck.

IMG_1374.jpg First thing I changed when I got my 2017 TRD PRO was rip out that crappy ass head unit and replace it with something that sounds far better. Do you currently have JBL or non JBL setup?

    I have a non-JBL from my '19 I'd sell if it's compatible.

I know harnesses are different between some years.

It is. I swapped my '19 non-JBL to '18 (or was it '17?) non-JBL w/ nav, and it was plug and play.

Stock HU/amp is not that bad. A lot of cars around have a worse, much worse audio setup. I've updated HUs and speakers in my other vehicles, but here in Tundra I'm not motivated enough.

Can’t remember if my old head unit is JBL or non JBL. Have to look when I get home. Changed the wimpy amp out too with a 5 channel JL Audio DSP amp. Absolutely amazing sound

not that bad?? How much crappier can it possibly get? Hands down the worst factory system I’ve ever heard. My wife’s Lexus has the Mark Levinson system in it from Toyota and that sounds pretty good for a factory installed system.

2005 Volvo XC70 with HU-650 was total garbage. Updated to Kenwood DDX, Focal midbass speakers/tweeters and DIY 100w amp for the center speaker. Sounds next to my living room JBL L16, which is a pretty high bar for me personally. Better than Harman Kardon in wife's ex Volvo XC60. Much better than her current JBL in Sequoia.

Actually, non-JBL Tundra is better than JBL Sequoia, IMO. I may update it in the future, or may leave it as is. When I feel urge for clam chowdah, blue cheese, wine and live music in mountains, I can jump into my old Volvo =) For other occasions beer, beef jerky and stock Tundra is fine with me.

I think JBL might have a decal or something on the door speaker grille.

Also JBL will have a speaker in the front door sail panel.
My non-JBL DC didn't have one, I think it is the same for the crewmax..

Plug it back and now erase all the private data you left in there ;)

Thank you for offer. Mine is non JBL unit also. I am not sure what data there would be remaining except bluetooth connections and I will certainly erase those as they have no value. You are welcome to message me via private message.

To answer a few other questions. I am certain it is the head unit. I have it hooked up to a Audiocontroler AC7 (or something like that) then to Kenwood 5 channel amp. I've used this configuration since 2018 and it has sounded great to my ears. First confirmed the wiring was still good behind the head unit. Then I swapped rca's at the amp and the dropped speaker follows the left rear channel from the head unit. I like the simplicity of the unit and it does all I'm looking for. My son, as some of you, keeps trying to convince me to upgrade to some fancy does everything unit. haha. Thanks for all the replies.
