3rd gen transfer case fix/stuck in 4wd fix

Same here. I've never been back. Haven't needed to. Hence the fix-it-yourself suggestion. But if I had a legit transfer case actuator issue that still hung up even after two weeks of regular, warmed up exercise, I would go make them make good on the warranty.

 

I’m so happy I have found this thread. I missed it because it says 3rd gen Tundra. I regularly engage 4hi and 4lo as my truck is mostly off road. I probably use 4hi once a week or more, now it’s having all kinds of issues. I’ll be trying this out and hopefully it’ll work and I haven’t destroyed anything in the tcase. I’ve done routine maintenance to the tcase and diffs, but for some reason this 2018 won’t shift out of 4hi. I got stuck in snow the other day, no issue getting unstuck, but it became a nightmare to get it from 4lo, which I was in before getting stuck, all the way back into 2wd.

 

these trucks usually fix their self if you keep trying. i had one take over a month to finally engage 4wd after not being used for a year. i just kept trying and eventually it engage and then 4 lo worked and now it instantly goes in and out no problem. just engage it once a month and youll never have any problems

 

They generally don’t just fix themselves. I engage 4wd on a weekly basis. If it wasn’t for finding this fix I’d be without 4wd. I didn’t have 4lo for almost a year, went into 4hi just fine, but it wouldn’t go into lo until I found this thread and fixed it.

 

I had this same issue in my 2015 Tundra, after wheeling in Moab! I thought I was stranded. I'd love to convert to a manual T-case shifter, but will be saving this info and digging into it soon! Thanks for posting!
