For the Mustang they have the aux cooler near the radiator. Moshimoto sells kits for the Mustang A10. I’ve had no need for it since I installed the shift kit, which also upgrades the oil passages in the shift body.

Moshimoto has a kit for the F-150 as well. I’m addition they have a thermostat mod that is very cool for certain models.

Thats only for the Raptor and 2017 F150 3.5. They had the traditional radiator cooler + air cooler.

All normal 10 speed F150's went to a oil/water cooler only in 2018 and I have yet to see any kind of cooler upgrade for those. Its literally just a block that sits under the truck between the trans pan and oil pan.

Do you use the Tow/Haul feature when towing? I'm curious if this would make a difference as the tranny shifts less and I believe only goes up to 7th gear.

The Tundra towing video Chuy! posted a link for is pretty informative. It said the 3rd gen has the tranny cooler that Ryan posted above and that the 2nd gen had no tranny cooler and in their towing the 2nd gen tranny temp hit 247 degrees while the 3rd gen hit 231 degrees. They were towing in 44 degree temps so I'm sure that helps keep temps down but it was also up I70 on a 7% grade towing 8100 lbs which is a tough climb.

The problem with these liquid/oil coolers like this seems to be that if the engine is not under a particularly high load then coolant flow through the radiator core is too low because the thermostat is closed, and you dont get much heat transfer through the transmission exchanger. I had this issue with my Lexus GX after pulling a pretty steep pass, I wasnt going fast and the engine coolant temp stayed pretty low. I dont even think I heard the mechanical fan engage. But by the top I had hit 248F trans temps and they refused to come down when I let the engine idle. There was virtually no coolant flow through the radiator due to the low load on the engine and the trans just stayed at a really high temperature for like 10-15 minutes.

I think this is why we have seen so many complaints about people just driving up a forest service road in 4x4 where the engine isnt really stressed and probably only making 40 hp(if that), but the trans is putting in some effort.

They are all doing it now. Even the Superduty's with the 10 speed dont run air coolers anymore. I think the 7.3L Superduty TFL Tested on the ike got up close to 240F trans temps.

I’d hate to add this and have them end the warranty due to some unforeseen circumstance .

Pretty sure 2018 models was when the AC Freon switch happened. Just need an owner of a 2018 to check if its 134a or 1234yf (newer Freon)

EDIT: Yep 2018s had the OEM radiator ATF cooler and the newer Freon.

The cooler has been running fine, if I had to do over I may have gone larger but this one manages temps well. I have towed up to 10K and max trans temps was around 220 in 85F heat, the lowest operating temp you are going to see is around 170F. In summary pinned the thermostat lowers operating temps from around 200-210 down to 180-190, this cooler increases thermal capacity for towing to an acceptable degree. Runing in Tow+ lowers trans temps around another 10F but oil temps go up by 10F due to the increased revs. If you are regularly towing up to 75% of the trucks rated capacity this cooler is a solid choice, if you are going over that I would consider larger one. If you only tow occasionally, 5K LB or less just pin the thermostat.

Meh. I liked Mr. Egg well enough but I wouldn't say they were a veritable font of ToyCorp knowledge.

@sudobash makes Mr. Egg look like the puke that changes oil at any dealership when it comes to turd 3rd gen knowledge.

Where? I looked everywhere around that little “cooler” thing they call cooler and I don’t see anywhere where you can pull anything out or pin it

It is on the side of the transmission

There is no stand-alone "cooler" it is actually a warmer.
