Sorry if this has been answered, I couldn’t find it
I drive a month with a trailer. The Distance to Empty gets fairly accurate after 5 or so fills. Now that I’m without a trailer, the DTE still shows based on trailer mileage, close to half the DTE I actually get. Takes a number of fill ups to get that DTE up to where it should be. I’ve tried to zero out all the fuel and odometers and related info on the Center screen but that doesn’t seem to help

is there any way to reset a DTE to present tank, or present mileage?
    Thanks

    Stan

Is your truck still thinking a trailer is connected?

Haven’t found a reset but it appears to me to be averaging based on your trucks lifetime MPG. Right now my trucks lifetime mpg is at 19.6 and the DTE is reading 550 miles after a fill up. Has never been below 500.

Right, you can change how the DTE works by 3 different settings. Overall/tank/trip I think I got those right?

There’s a way to reset it in the MID settings (left steering wheel buttons). I don’t remember how to navigate off the top of my head, but poking through the menus will get you more familiar, any way.

*fyi: some functions within the settings require a long press on the OK button to activate them (push straight in on center button on left side of steering wheel that also toggles up and down)*

Isn’t that just for the displayed MPG? (trip or tank) I get my lifetime overhaul from my actual entries in Fuelly for exact accuracy.

if anyone has any luck please let me know

Is it possible you're encountering the fuel gauge issue that crops up when parked on an incline? If not, it still might be worth it to try the reset procedure detailed in this pic from the fuel gauge issue thread.

It under vehicle.settings then look for the leaf. I'll try to find something on the owners manual layer today.

I’ve tried everything. I have not found a way to reset the DTE. Seems to me that Toyota has decided it’s not important so they don’t offer that option?

if anyone is able to reset their’s please let me know

The procedure I posted above didn't do anything? It definitely changes the DTE for those of us who've had the fuel Guage reset issue when parking on an incline. Did you try disconnecting the battery to see if that does anything?

I found this tidbit in the manual. Interesting behavior but not sure if it applies to your situation or not.

●When only a small amount of fuel
is added to the tank, the display
may not be updated. When refuel-
ing, turn the engine switch to OFF.
If the vehicle is refueled without
turning the engine switch to OFF,
the display may not be updated.

You can’t reset distance to empty. You can only reset the mpg if you have it on total, not tank average. The distance to empty will go up and down based off your driving habits during the last couple of tanks. I get better mpgs in the summer because I do a ton of highway. Right now my dte says close to 500 miles. During the school year when I’m driving the kids all around town it will gradually drop down to the lower to mid 400s. No matter what though it will adjust as you drive during the current tank. It won’t add miles it will just not subtract miles as fast. By the time you get down to a quarter it will be accurate

I tried the fuel reset you posted. Twice. It didn’t change anything. But I dont have a problem with my fuel quantity so I’m not surprised. I hesitate to disconnect the battery, don’t want to lose any default settings.

    Alex
I think you are right. Though I found the DTE to still be inaccurate below 1/4 tank. I remember towards the end of my first tank that I drove 100 km on the odometer, but the DTE only came down 60 km. This was the first tank without an trailer, after about 15 tanks of fuel use pulling a trailer.

Bummer. It definitely resets the DTE when I've run into the fuel gauge issue. I hate to suggest this but maybe a trip to the dealer to see if they can reflash something?

I think Alex in post 13 has the correct answer.

There is no way to reset the DTE, unless perhaps when one has a fuel gauge issue and does the procedure DRP suggests.

I have no fuel gauge issue. The DTE is just inaccurate because I'm switching between trailering and not trailering. I find the DTE becomes more accurate the more time I spend in the same speed/configuration.
