Hi, does anyone know the specifications of the under hood connector for doing EVAP smoke test. It's a schraider type valve. Its a male thread, 12mm in diameter. Id like to connect to that to do a smoke test if it's appropriate. TIA

Took me a while to get back to this thread.

2003 Tundra 4WD, SR5, 4.7L V8, code I'm getting is P0442. Replaced the gas cap which has been the culprit in the past. Still have code. Trying do a smoke check using the fitting that's under the hood. It's pictured above. I have a home made smoke machine that has worked well on other vehicles in the past. If I have to, I'll buy a gas cap drill a hole in it and use that to smoke Check. I do get a faint smell of gas after filling up. I'm due for inspection this month.

You need to hit that thread I linked you up with STAT and search for that code. I think your truck is likely affected my the TSB you’ll find searching that code in that thread. It impacted 2003-2004 trucks. Gas filler neck cracks/fails. TSB article is linked in that thread with instructions on how to confirm if your VIN was impacted or not, and how to fix, what to order, etc. Cracks can be hairline and difficult to see.

When this happened to me it turned out the my gas tank was rusted and slightly leaky. I didn't discover this until one of the straps rusted through, and the tank nearly dropped out while I was driving. The tank was rusting through where the straps were, but of course the bottom is covered with a plastic shroud making this all but impossible to see until you drop the tank. Bad design, evidenced by the fact that '05 - '06 models have a plastic tank. When I replaced the tank, and the straps, and the fuel pump (because why not while it's all on the ground) the smell and the codes went away.

Thanks for the replies. Hoping it's not the tank.

Yeah let’s hope not, your engine pick makes it look like you are also in the rust belt though
