I assume he means Tuff Country, not Rough Country. Rough Country is really not-good stuff. For same or barely more than budget stuff like RC you can easily get that same lift.

But running a 265/70r17 or 275/70r17 will look visually very similar on your truck. Here's why.

 

Thanks, I haven't been on here for awhile myself. Appreciate all the links and also the interesting links to tire size. I currently have a modest lift from bilisten 5100's and running 265/70r17's. May go 275 next time around but not sure it's worth it in loss of gas mileage. Thanks for the help!

 

As someone running aggressive and oversized E-rated 275/70r17 that are closer to 285/70r17 than they are their actual size, having lost about 15% of my mpg, I'd recommend against it. I'd jump straight to a C-rated 285/70r17 from your current size, and I'd try to find something you think looks good, but weighs less than 50lb in the larger size, if you can. If you're going all-terrain it'll be harder for sure to find something under 50lb (I think). My Mickey Baja Legend EXP are 59lb in 275/70r17 I believe, and my stock tire was closer to 35lb. Almost doubled the rotational mass.

But you'll still be rubbing, you'll need to remove your front mudflaps, and potentially hammer some stuff out. Don't forget, lift doesn't help you clear tires per se, just helps prevent contact during compression events. If you have 5100s already, alignment and hammering is what's going to help you avoid rubbing should you choose to commit adding another half inch or inch of tire.

 

I'll keep this in mind the next time the search to buy tires comes up. I only have around 7k miles on these 265s so it will be awhile. Not sure I look forward to losing 15% in gas mileage but hopefully gas prices will drop over the next year.

I'd love to convince the oil companies to do just that. Given the millions they get of our tax dollars for incentives, on top of the gaggle of profit they make, it'd be nice for them to finally stop screwing all of us. But you gotta pay the stockholers what they want, I guess.

I'd love tire prices to drop too. What BFG wants for the KO2s versus when they first launched, with no significant change in raw material pricing, and the KO3s now, it's nuts. It's in their hands to drop their pricing, but as long as people are paying it, there's no reason to.

That's the really awesome part about capitalism, amirite?! The system is working as it's designed. However, for the other stuff...

Even on my hunt for fun OEM wheels on FB Marketplace recently was a gouge-fest. At this point, everyone "knows what they got", I guess

Mounted these up about 2 weeks ago, lots of pinch weld clearance needed. They still slightly rub so I’m going to go with Solo Motorsports LCA’s.

Falkin 285/75r17 (34x11:50) bought on Black Friday from Simple Tire with about 4 discount codes, shipped just under $1,150.

Wheels are New Toyota T4R 5th Gen Pro Wheels. Purchased from a Toyota dealer on Amazon. I bought them 2 years when they dropped to like $975 shipped. I was skeptical and was ready to fully inspect them to make sure they were real, and they are 100% new OEM.

 

Great size, I'm running toyo's in the same on repro (I believe) TRD pro's with Solo Motorsports LCA's as well.

Those look like Toyota, the knockoffs are pretty obvious.

My old 285 Toto’s still have tread even at 116k miles. I wanted to give the Falkins a try as everyone has been suggesting them.

Idk I see fakes online all the time that look pretty good. They say made in China on them, and as far as I know the TRD pros are made in Thailand ‍♂️

I believe mine did say Thailand, and had the normal Toyota marking on the wheels. The packaging was very much a Toyota product.

 

I have since gone bigger but that was 275/70/17 with 2.5" front strut spacer & 2" block in the rear.

 

I recently got these wheels with 265/70/17. Did you have to run any spacers or different lugs,, wheels came without lugs, havent had a chance to test fit yet,
so was looking into spacers if i need them and noticed bora makes a thin spacer, like 1/4 inch and that would take me back to near stock offset any experience with those ?

 

1/4” spacers would be dangerous to me. Still using the original lugs which are short to start with. Have to run ET lug nuts as it is.

 

My coworker initially did not use spacers and did use his same lugs.
Without spacers the wheels were very tucked in, to the point where his new 285 tires (wider thand 265's) were rubbing on the upper control arm.
He ended up running a 1.25" spacer and it corrected the rubbing and gave him the perfect stance with those wheels.

Those look good. I was looking for a used set for a while, but they aren't as common as anything that came on a 4runner.

 

Yup, drove 4 hrs total to pick them up.

 

They actually came on the early 5th Gen trail editions as well, although in a lighter color (same difference between the darker 1st Gen Sequoia wheels and the lighter color Tundra 5 split spoke wheels) still not super common though. Once I'm ready for new tires I plan on swapping the TRD style wheels from my tundra with my 4th Gen 4runner that has these older trail edition wheels on it currently.

I have the same wheels and same tire size but only 1.5" front and 1" rear. How much bigger 285's?

285/70/17 tire. 3" lift in the front. About 2" or 2.5" in the rear.

 

Limited/sequoia wheels I refinished. New caps. 1.25" spacers. 265/70r17 toyo at3s. Leveled on bilstein 5100s.

 

bilstein 5100 2in. BFG KO2 275/70/17 E -- AFAIK stock rims but I rub on frame and UCA. I am looking at labor day sales for wheels and want to get a better offset for same tire size. What offset do yall think would clear me with no rubbing? I read megathread and have been trying to look at other peoples setups but haven't found the answer yet.

 

What method did you use to black out your wheels? I've been thinking about doing the same.
