Got my RCI sliders installed a few days ago. No top plates. Wife and kid dig them for climbing in and out. Slapped some 3m traction tape on the outer rails to make it easy to get in and out. With the Tundra doors being wider than the rockers, they sit almost as far out as traditional tube steps but not quite as low.

I got lucky, my 4th hole was right next to the front gas tank strap so I was able to wiggle it into place. The frame in my truck did not have another big hole for the 5th bolt on the driver side near the middle of the tank. I did have a couple smaller M8 holes at the rear of the mounting plate and was able to use those.

So you are saying they sit flush with the door?

You’re probably speaking about the rocker panels if this is the question you’re asking. Rock sliders bolt to the frame which protects your rocker panel from damage while off roading/wheeling.

If you want to spend a pretty penny, then yes, rock sliders will act as a step and as protection from damages (door dings, maybe, if your truck is lifted to a certain extent).

If you want to save a couple bucks, then running boards would be your other option and a cheaper alternative to steps.

These 2 give you an idea about the mounting setup, strength, durability of these units...

Hopefully this will give you an idea about coverage... Also, I have no top plates on mine... But, if you want a better step surface and more paint protection from rocks, etc. you can order them w/top plates. If you are in snow and ice regularly, I'd recommend them as the powder coating is slick in icy conditions

+1 for westcott sliders. I’ve really beat mine up and they are stout. I love how clean the lines are and you can get them in a 20 degree which I have. Can’t to wrong with RCI either.

Thanks, guys. These look like really good options as well. I'll take a closer look.
