I struggled with how to approach that. There is enough room to get a box end of a wrench on the hardware, but realistically the bed comes off for any spring work. It's just 6 bolts.

 

Packed her up and sent her to meet me 800 miles away in Texas.

Oh yeah, you'll be on the Southside of Houston, like me, but about 30 mins away.

Close is subjective in this state.
The vast majority of the parks what are worth going to are in the hill country. There's some mud parks around Houston area I've never bothered with and probably never will.
There's the Lone Star Toyota Jamboree that's held near Dallas, that's a lot of fun.
Then there's the desert side of west TX, where we'll be having this TX Best Gen event in October, open to other states too

sounds like there will be a few of us down in Houston area. This will be my second time living in Texas so I’m pretty familiar. Last time I lived in Corpus and bought a dirtbike in Denton. What a ride that was in a day.

 

I’m about 15-20 minutes from Denton. Think I might be in Houston for a weekend soon, but I think we’re taking the 460.

 

I'm closer to 5 other state capitols than my own. OKC, Santa Fe, Denver, Cheyenne, and Topeka. Some say 6, but that's a stretch.

 

Day 3 - Done!!

- Mounted the new spring
- Ran the bolts through the hangers
- Put the bolts back through the shocks
- But the tires back on, and dropped that fucker back on the ground!

I bounced up and down on the bumper a bunch of times, then crawled underneath to tighten everything back down. I tightened everything "gutentight" with an impact, except for the u-bolts where I used a torque wrench.

Total time so far today = ~90 minutes. I still need to re-install the trailer hitch and hang the spare (it's amazing how much room there is to work without the spare in the way), but I'm sick of this job!! I'll have another cup of coffee then finish up at a leisurely pace. I figure I need one more hour to finish up before the road test.

It went much faster today because I've already done one side, and I knew what to expect. I also knew to measure and adjust the bushings while on the ground (much easier). And most importantly...plenty of lubricant (To quote the great prophet Zappa "keep it greasy")

Found a bakflip bed cover. Decent shape and I just needed a quick run to ace hardware and we were in business.

 

That looks like the FiberMax Bakflip I have (but swapped for a camper shell, still have the FiberMax though)

It's a pretty awesome unit. I could stand on it to wash the top of the cab. Sturdy SOB.

 

This one’s the G2. I really like the bakflip covers. I’d love that hard shell roll up, but I’m not paying retail for one.

I love having a bed cover, but the one I have is a cheap vinyl trifold. I want one like yours or one that rolls up like a garage door.

Added some pockets to the camper and then added 5 HP on the back window.

 

Anyone know if these trim strips can come off without replacement. It almost looks like there is a seal at the top but mine are toast and I’d like to take them off and paint the chrome.

 

Really good chance you'll break the clips if they're original. I think you can get a set for 130 shipped off rock auto. I literally just sold a double cab set for all 4 doors for 80.

looks like bilstein is having some issues with their 6112s that just landed (05-23 tacoma). Not sure if this carries over to our tundras in current quality
