Went outside to fire up my tundy a few minutes ago & the keyfob was no responsive
Thought maybe the battery was dead in the keyfob, so I tried my spare....same result

I used the emergency key inside the fob to unlock drivers door & my alarm started screaming at me for about 1 min

I then tried to push start, no luck
But a message appeared in the dash cluster advising me to hold the keyfob near the push start & then I tried the push start & viola the truck turned on

    Any thoughts?????
Maybe this is in the manual
But I'm your standard guy who never reads the manual, hehe

Somebody was using a replicator to copy your key code so they could steal your truck. The interference was causing the malfunction.

I’m just kidding. I have no idea. lol. However….

My original key fob battery got low which triggered the dash cluster to let me know this,I took my 4 month old fob and swapped the battery along with the actual electronic fob and put that in my every day use one, AJT and the truck wouldn't unlock when I grabbed the drivers door handle nor would it accept a lock command when touching the door handle.

So I ended up swapping the battery from new to old and all is good.

The other day I did something that caused a similar thing. I had to hold the key fob up to the push button. I can’t remember the circumstances though. Almost think I unlocked via app, went out to start it without the key…no. I remember there was an explanation in my mind anyway…

I've had all sorts of issues with my original fob, replaced the battery multiple times in the last year, but will still periodically not work. My 2nd one has zero issues and dealer found nothing wrong but thought maybe I store the fob to close to the truck...

I’ve had that happen ! Not sure what I did to provoke the issue but same result . Message to hold key to start button and Varroom , travel on ! Weird safety feature ,, prolly caused by remote app usage can’t talk to key fob ? Who’s know lol

My original Fob battery went dead at just 1 yr of service. Changed it. But twice in my trucks 13 months it has asked me to hold the fob to the Start button. Once recently and I never got out of the truck after originally turning it off. Very weird.

Sounds like the typical series of events when key battery goes out. Exact thing happened to me couple of months ago to include horn blasting.

This truck never alerted for a low battery. Just died one day out of the blue. My wife's Nissan will come up with a warning message for weeks each start until you change it. We with all the nanny ware in this truck they forgot that one

Agree. The Toyota App told me my Fob battery was low right when it died. ( I did notice its range getting shorter a few days before - next time I’ll check it )

One little tip I learned a couple Toyotas ago for your spare, in case you didn’t know, put it to sleep for storage. In one hand, Push Lock twice and hold it down, with the other hand push and hold Unlock. The red light will flash and stop. It’s now asleep. Not transmitting or receiving. To Wake, just push any button.

Don't know if it's a battery issue with mine, but I've noticed over the last few weeks that when I press the door handle to lock the truck, there's about a 2-3 second delay before it locks, when it used to lock in under a second. Don't know what brought on the change, but my son's truck also started doing it about a week or so after mine.

Same issue occurring for me now. One of my two key fobs died. The other seemingly died, but the car alarm went off. This evening, while doing nothing with the key fob or the truck, the truck alarm went off. Something is very wrong with these fobs. I've never had to replace batteries for one, let alone two, key fobs. And why would it stop working and the car alarm randomly go off. It's happened three times today. I'm dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow. Their problem.

I'm really interested in what you hear back from this. I have the same problem. Only additional symptom I have though is that my horn honks rapidly 3 times randomly. Not frequently but every so often, and I have had my alarm go off randomly. Only thing I can think of is the non factory alarm systems dealers are adding. I'm thinking of removing that module from Rockledge securities. Anyways keep us posted, thanks!!
