I'm mad as hell! I cannot understand how refusing to show solidarity during the National Anthem fixes anything at most it creates more division IMO. I didn't serve our country but it doesn't take a genius to understand our freedoms we're not free and they came with the greatest of sacrifices. I will always stand beside those who love OUR LAND and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to fight.
Thank you all that have served and those still serving my family and I will always be greatful and you'll always have our RESPECT!

From what I have experienced and seen, one doesn't have to serve in the military to be patriotic. Plenty of true patriots that have the upmost respect for our country and never stepped foot in a war zone.

Honestly, I just think there are more important things to worry about. Not supporting these guys by any means, I just don't care. I quit watching football a few years ago, when the whole league started running the same offense.
I'm much more concerned that people in Flint haven't had clean water in three years. I'm more concerned that thousands of people in our country and territories just lost everything in these storms. I'm concerned that our Congress can't get their shit together and figure out what to do about health care, one way or another. The same congress that had the time to pass bills allowing our internet history to be sold to the highest bidder. To eliminate net neutrality. I'm concerned that North Korea is going to escalate, causing more people to lose their lives. I'm talking about soldiers on all sides.

Not trying to sway anyone. Like I said, I honestly don't care what those guys do. I just feel that we need to focus on things that matter, and work together to get things done.

Instead, we're fighting over statues, and our President is having a pissing contest with some basketball players over twitter.

Good topic, everyone. Pretty impressed on how well everyone has kept the politics out of this thread, and focused on the "issue" at hand.

Can't say I agree with people saying they are overpaid. Generally, what dictates someone's pay is how much the employer makes, and how important the employee is to that bottom line. Each team is valued over a billion dollars. They have fifty something players each, plus staff. I believe average revenue per year per team is between 300 and 400 million. That money doesn't come in without those players. Salary is determined by demand. There is a high demand for a small group of people.

Factor in the danger of the job, short career span, and basically giving up your health in your later years, then it makes sense that they'd be paid very well. Especially considering that there are very few who can do it. It's not something you can go to school and learn. You either can or you can't.

Should soldiers, police officers, teachers be paid more? Absolutely. Hell, they should get paid more than I do, but they don't. Doesn't mean I don't deserve what I get.

A little this and that...Broke now
    Stand Always!!!!!!

All but one of the Pittsburgh Steelers decided to protest by staying in their locker room, during the playing of the national anthem at this afternoon’s game in Chicago. The lone dissenter was former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva who bucked the team’s decision and took the field, anyway, hand over his heart and helmet under his arm.
On Sunday morning, reports emerged that the Steelers had decided to stay in their locker room despite league rules requiring the team to be on the sidelines during the playing of the national anthem.

By game time, the team did, indeed, fulfill their announced intentions. However, Villanueva defied his team and took the field:

This isn’t the first time the Steelers’ offensive tackle has been at odds with fellow players over anthem protests.

Its retarded, a waste of time, and a disgrace to those who made the ultimate sacrifice still living and passed on soldiers who put themselves on the line for the freedoms of this country every second of their enlistment. But now you know who your kids should and should not look up to in these times. Raise your kids right so they don't stray away to this type of disrespect. Be THEIR role-model instead of these f%^(-tards.

I never served in the military but i have had family members who have and i have 100% respect for the men and women who have served and continue to serve. I think the NFL is a bunch of worthless piles of scum who get paid a boatload of money to play a childs game. If i was a coach i dont care who it is if you cant stand and respect your country you would not play for me. The disrespect this country has now is unbelievable. I myself am a millenial, but i work my ass off everyday and earn everything i have. I just cant believe the self entitlement my generation thinks they deserve. Sorry for the rant im done now!

It's up to the owners to put forth what they expect from their players whom they pay....until then....
Agreed....but then again I don't agree with a lot that is going on here in our country.
    :notsure: but i agree

As for the freedom of speech...its freedom of speech until someone is offended....just saying. Them kneeling is "speech" its a way to protest though and they at least are doing it PEACEFULLY. I dont have to agree with what they are doing....but its their right that so many of us have served to protect....and that's not just military....its LEOs too. Dallas officers died protecting protesters who were peacefully protesting cops!

The hatred i see in our country saddens me and makes me sick...specially knowing my kids, nephews and niece will be growing up in such a hateful place. (and I'm not talking about anything on here....we all rock!)

Hopefully, one day our country will be great again....right now its not....right now its falling apart and we will be the next fallen GREAT.

Here is a true hero. Served and continues to serve the country by standing proudly despite the entire team staying the the locker room during the anthem.

This is the most diverse country and we do still have a long way to go to all become united as one. I agree with moving toward a more united country. I agree that there needs to be discussions, conversations, etc. During the anthem is not the time to do this. The anthem is the time to honor what our forefathers created for us and what our military continues to to keep safe.

First off, I would like to say that my family and I are immigrants and became citizens in the late 80's. We battled pirates in the open sea with no food and water and had dealt with multiple failed attempts before succeeding at coming to America and to this day it's well worth it. The opportunities that are here are beyond imaginable and until some of these people ( athletes and Hollywood stars ) been through what some of us have been through with some third world countries or countries under a dictatorship will never appreciate. I'm speaking in general of course and I'm sure there are athletes and movie stars out there that appreciate the freedom that we have here and the price that had to be paid by men and women and their families through the years. There's no such thing as free, the freedom was paid with lives and the least all of us could do is stand for literally 60 seconds to pay the respect that those men and women deserves. I understand that it's their right and I don't fault them for exercise their rights but I don't think this is the appropriate forum and venue to do it. They should do it on their own time and with their own money. They are getting a randsome for play the game and not for them to exercise their political view on Sunday. Please leave politics out of sports. Go do something and exercise their view in the off season, to my understanding the off season is their own time so exercise it then.

The Bears were out on the field standing. I was surprised the Steelers didn't come out. I always thought they had that old school mentality. The NFL has become more entertainment then competition. And these political stances are the last straw for me. Baseball, still America's past time. Looking forward to the playoffs! Cubs repeat.... calling it now

I've paid to watch 2 NFL games this year and they will be my last.. I truly hope Americans stop watching football and the NFL GOES BANKRUPT.. there are many ways to prove your point of an opinion you have and want to express but to sit while our anthem is being played and to stand for God Save the Queen British Anthem is a Big Fuck you in my eyes... I Love the Dallas Cowboys and love that Jerry Jones said each and every person on my team and staff will be standing for our nations flag and show respect or ou won't have a job!!!!! Go ahead Jerry Jones.. you the man in my book!!!

Son of a bitch...... still a much more competitive game with a lot of international players. I'm sticking with baseball til they make up songs to sing for different night games.
