    No, every new engine I have ever owned has interesting looking oil/filter element at the first OCI. That’s why I change it out way before 10,000. I didn’t even bother to do analysis on the break in oil because I know it would have very bad results. I would only say something/be concerned if there was excessive water or large chunks in the filter.

    Agree with you. I didn’t bother sending in for analysis at my 1500 mi. change. The 5000 mi change analysis came back clean and in spec. Waiting now for results of the 15,000 mi. change sample.

    Blackstone are still my go to guys but they are really slow. It used to be a week to get results. Now it’s three.

    Yeah just had mine changed at 1200 miles at the dealer. Paid for it early, so its clean oil in there now. The next at 5k or 6 months I'll see if I can get a sample.

    Changed my oil twice before I hit 5k. Gotta say the truck’s engine is extremely quiet.

    To, think the bone head in the finance dept. said “just do the oil change at 10k. The engines are broken in at the factory”…

    I'm probably an idiot and missed reading it somewhere, but what kind of 1/4" tubing for the sample pump? Nylon?

    I have the speed diagnostic kit and need to buy more hose, but all I keep coming across is vinyl and silicone.

    Glad to see this get some legs . I plan on doing mine as well . since it will be done often I will stick with Blackstone. Ordered their free kit.I have 2k more before 5K oil change . I’m at almost 41K so curious as to what I’m going to find.

    Years ago manufacturers use to tell us to do the 1st oil change at 600 to 1000 miles .

    I still do. I have done it on everything from my Hyundai to my Audi, as well as all of my motorcycles. It is well worth the $100 on a $70k+ vehicle.

    I doubt the accounting department made that decision considering the owner pays for the change

    I don't remember the exact rule, but I believe the government gives incentives (CAFE penalty credits) for vehicles that are more efficient with oil change intervals. So the accounting department most likely did factor into that decision.

    Does the SpeedDiagnostics not test for silver? It seems like many Tundra oil had a large amount in it.

    I noticed that, too. From the earlier discussions I thought silver was the canary in our particular coal mine. If so, this would be a critical omission.

    I emailed Lake Speed about the lack of silver on the report. I’ll let you know what he says.

    Whatever this forum told me to do
    <I'm a 2.5 gen'r, but I watch these threads because I'll be needing a new truck someday.>

    I realize this oil analysis process is new to most 3rd gen'rs.

    however;

    Question...has a 3rd gen failure happened after a clean oil analysis?

    I've been doing Blackstone for years & it's quite reassuring to see the condition of the lifeblood of the motor.

    sidebar info - I've had a S/C on my 5.7L for ~80k miles, and oil analysis still comes back very clean.

    5k oil change, was at least the second as I bought it CPO so the dealer did a change as part of the certification process

    10k change right before a big road trip

    2k miles until my next change and will see where silver is then. Other than the 2500 mile road trip I just took, my driving is more local shorter trips around town, groceries, kids to events etc. I have a work car so the Tundra is only weekends and evenings so to speak. A camping trip every month or so that has some highway time on it.

    So, these reports keep saying that silver can be from solder. What internal engine parts would have been soldered?? I have never heard or seen that before from vehicles I had sampled previously to my 3rd gen Tundra. I am still awaiting my BS results. Hopefully get them in a week or 2.

    only thing I could imagine having solder would be something like an external engine oil cooler or turbo oil feed/drain lines. Idk if the turbos use silver in their bearings, but that could also be source outside of engine bearings.

    Edit to add: changed oil at 1000 and 5000 miles. 2024 non-hybrid SR5 for what it’s worth.

    Maybe I am misremembering but I thought that silver was identified as being in our bearings and that was something we needed to watch. If I am wrong, someone please correct me. As for solder in an oil cooler, that makes sense. However, one would think that any solder residue would be cleared after the first oil change or 2. But IDK for sure. And IDK if solder has any solubility from a clean solder joint... even in a miniscule way... in hot motor oil.

    From Speed Diagnostix in an email I sent asking about the absence of silver levels in their tests.

    “Silver is only found in electromotive diesel engine bearings, so it is not a wear metal found in any gasoline or diesel powered vehicles, which is why we don’t report it. There are several elements that we test for that we don’t commonly report as they are not relevant to the results.”

    I'm dubious.

    I'll ask my pal Pond Velocity if this silver gig is on the up and up.
