Appreciate the advice, and I am watching FB and CL for a good deal on wheels and tires….and I have explained to my son that the RC wheels are about the cheapest I have found, and while they get good reviews they might be less than perfect…..and I would never trust them to tow this guy….



….little Toyota has been pulling this guy all over North America since he was 1 year old and trailer was brand new……but back on topic……I explained to him that in all likelihood the cheap Rc wheels will be fine for him driving back and forth to school, football practice, cruising with his buddies, getting back and forth to work, and some light wheeling……so while the wheels won’t be as strong as the stocks, they will find a balance of what he wants looks wise ( old school 4x4 look) and what he needs, cheap, and suitable for his needs from the truck….additionally as they are so cheap if he breaks one or they don’t work out for whatever reason, ( though I strongly feel they will for his needs) it won’t be too costly of an error……make no mistake I don’t teach my son anything but pros and cons of all choices……and I’m leaving this choice to him with my gentle guidance, why? Because if they work out he will have learned that cheap isn’t always junk, especially when you’re realistic about your needs……if they do go for shit then he will have learned and even more valuable lesson, function over form or desire…..mistakes,and failures are the greatest learning and growth tools.

As far as everyone knowing they are cheap wheels, why would he give a fuck about that? Do you worry about what people think about your choice of wheels?

He’s 16, gonna be driving a really cool first truck…..and he’s paying for 50% of the mods we do…..(Dads gonna kick in the other 50)…..so he’s fully in board with getting the most bang for his buck! Another awesome lesson he’s learning…..and lastly if the wheels don’t work out, we stilll have the ugly, tough and reliable starfish to fall back on.


I’m teaching him to weigh pros, and cons, needs and wants, and the value of his money.

Yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just showing them in black to help with decision making. There is also gold on @The Black Mamba ' s truck as an example of how that looks too. I choose different black wheels instead of painting the originals.

The Eibach E60-82-066-02-10 shocks are the ones I used. Wheelers had them as a set using part number EIB-E60-82-066-02-10-X2. It looks like they now show a set as part WOR-311240 for the same price they regularly list them @ $260 but is having a sale today and tomorrow:

"Father's Day Sale! | Up to 20% OFF | June 12th through 18th ALL NON-TRAIL-GEAR FAMILY PRODUCTS DISCOUNT GIVEN AT CHECKOUT".

However, looks like these are currently out of stock. Could give them a call to see if you can back order them for the sale price that looks like would be $208 @20% off $260 with free shipping on orders over $100 (less than the $221 I paid). Don't know if their free shipping applies to CAN but they are very easy to talk with.

Also, what is listed as expected lift seems different that what is on Eibach's website for the 4x4 instructions that I found to be accurate with OE springs:

1st clip: stock height
2nd clip: .75"average lift
3rd clip: 1.5" average lift
3rd clip: 2.25" average lift
4th clip: 3" average lift

Can talk directly with Eibach regarding your application to verify everything including the 2.25" clip setting with OE springs and UCAs etc. They were very friendly and helpful.

What rear shocks and suspension mods are you planning?

FYI Wheelers also currently has the Multi-Leaf Add-A-Leaf Set With U-Bolts - 1.5" Lift 3 Leaf Progressive for 1995+ Tacoma, 1999-2006 Tundra listed on for $161.87 instead of regular price of $202.34. Looks like that is already including 20% off so don't know if they might be another 20% off $161.87 on top of that. Summit also has these on sale now too for $171.99 with free shipping ("Valid on orders shipped in the contiguous United States."). IIRC I used Wheeler's older version that don't think they sell anymore (AAL-20).

It's weird to think about this, but back in HS, buy buddy had a 74 chevy SWB he pulled out of a field and got running. This was in 96. Today, my truck is the same age as was back then. His truck felt so old back then, but it doesn't feel that way with mine today. Weird.

 

make sure on Facebook you are searching Tacoma and 4 runner wheels. They all have the same bolt pattern and there isn’t much for tundras

 

I just swapped out of these, but they are typically cheap and 17". So many 4Runner guys/gals sell as take-offs for like $100/each.

If you are in the Raleigh area, I am selling with the LTX Tires - whole set-up ~1K miles.

 

I moved to the TRD Pro and 255/80R17 to get rid of the spacers. TRD wheels were on sale during Memorial Day weekend online at Hendrick Toyota here for like $185. I kinda prefer the more silver look, TBH.

 

I've mentioned this to people before, and no one seems to care or just agrees - its very weird to me - its like a matrix moment ( "no no, you don't understand they seemed so much older") LOL. Even as a kid in the 80s - the 70s vehicles felt SOO old, but the style of vehicles changed so much from the 60s to the 70s to the 80s. It is all probably all the same as ankle socks to GenZ or something. . .
