I had to replace my AC Condenser because of rock damage. It would only blow cool, not cold. It told a few days for the part to come in.i asked the dealership was it OK to run the AC.. They said yes, you can't hurt anything else. Well, a few days before I was. Dscheduled to replace condenser, I heard a bad noise under the drivers dash. I told them about it, before repair and they didn't understand what I was saying. So a few days after repair, my heater box goes out. They want 3750.00 to fix. Please help me on what I need to do.

I'd get the condenser replaced, check for additional leaks. Recharge the A/C system (including the appropriate amount and type of oil) and then evaluate the heater box.

What kind of rock damage? Slow off roading over rocks or a rock was bouncing on the highway and hit you at high speed?

I would not be going to the dealership. My business would be given to a AC dedicated place that actually knows what they are doing.

My AC went out on one of my Dodge Rams at 160k miles. Just for shitzngiggles I checked with the dealer and they wanted 2100.00. A local business did the complete AC replacement for 730.00.

I agree. Shop this around. I recently had a quote of $2200 to repair the AC in my 2001 Tahoe (they had assumed the compressor had died and everything needed to be redone). I took it to a different shop and they actually diagnosed the issue... it was just the condenser and expansion valve... out the door for a few hundred.

What does it exactly mean: "heater box goes out"?

Generally speaking, A/C and heater system have nothing between them, besides using the same HVAC electric controls.

Driving with hole in A/C system puts at risk of absorbing moisture, but you are replacing the condenser that comes with a new receiver dryer, plus deep vacuuming will boil and evacuate all the moisture trapped in the system.

If my condenser took a rock and the AC stopped working, I would not continue to operate it. I’m surprised it would even work if the system was open in any way from damage. Surely the refrigerant would have all leaked out and the low pressure would prevent the system from activating. Agree with above, “heater box” if we’re talking the heater core, has nothing to do with condenser / AC operation. It’s a box with engine coolant lines in it to blow air on and grab heat for the cab. If they need to pull the dash to repair something AC related it’s quite a few labor hours.

The condenser was replaced because of rock damage. AC working great now. It blew cool, but not cold till the condenser came in. Was told it would be fine to let it run. As I'm waiting to get scheduled, I hear a crunch under my dash a few times. I told them about it, and they said they didn't understand. So,my condenser gets replaced, and a few days later the heater box goes out. Is this relatd?

Describe the “heater box goes out” symptoms. It’s the crudest, simplest component of the AC system. It’s really hard for it to “go out”. It can corrode over a long time or develop a leak, but it can’t just fail in and of itself and not be hit with circulating fluid that you blow air over. I think it’s a separate component that may be to blame as the box has no moving parts. Air delivery to the box has some, perhaps it’s a blend door issue or something like that.

No hot air, or defrost. Blower works fine. No hot air or defrost.

Sounds like a blend door issue. Member here just fixed his without taking the dash apart I believe. If you’re not into the repair yourself, take it somewhere else for another opinion. I do not see how the condenser would be related to this issue.

Same - just echoing what others have said. In our old 2010 Fusion they (dealership) recommended a full replacement of the heater box, AC system, etc.

Actual issue? Pinhole leak in the condenser valve, I think. Cost a whopping $50 to replace.

The dealer also replaces the entire front differential over a $20 needle bearing issue. It’s their way, not the way.
