Calling all Tundra part experts out there!!

Hi Guys,

Just joined the forum and have to say I'm a little overwhelmed by all the information. There is so much of it and I get lost reading all of it as some topics go off subject and into other areas.

Here is what I need help with...I recently bought a 2016 Toyota Tundra SR5 (No TRD package) and I'm wanting to change the look on the front of the truck.

First I would like to get the 2018 "honeycomb" style grill and bulge that matches the color of my truck which is magnetic gray metallic (1G3). I noticed that the new TRD Sport model that was showcased at the Chicago Car show had the exact color I am wanting on my 2016. I was wondering will that grill fit on my 2016? I talked to a few dealership's part departments and they were not very helpful. Some said it would and some said it wouldn't because of the headlights being a different angle. I saw that the emblem on the grill is crazy high because of the sensors but hopefully an after market one will be made soon or like @Roman said my 2016 emblem could be glued on but is a little small.

Second item I need help with is the headlights. I love the look of daytime running lights on trucks. I first saw these on on Silverados and Sierras and was really hoping my 2016 Tundra had them. Unfortunately my does not. I was wondering if the LED headlights on the 2018 Tundra would work on my 2016? From watching some videos I saw online the daytime running lights look like a "C" when the truck is running. I have read what you guys have written and was wondering if there was a fix to the wiring to have these lights work in older Tundras.

I found out that the emblem from a Land Cruiser is an exact match and will clip right in.

@Roman Thanks so much for the information! I knew you would be the man to get this answered for me. On the grille assembly...since there is no photo.... can you tell me if the grille is the style that is coming out on the Magnetic Gray Metallic TRD Sport edition? I really want to get all the chrome off my grille if possible and have the entire grille match my truck's color.

That is definitely the grille coming on the TRD Sport in MGM. Speaking of the photo, if you order one from me and take a picture of your truck, I'll put it on my website for future reference to this grille.

 

@Roman I can for sure do that but before I order I want to make sure that the grille will fit properly and that the lights I have on my 2016 will match up well with this grille assembly. Have you heard of there being an issue with the lights on the 2016 vs. the new LED lights on the 2018. One dealership I called said that that headlights are at a different angle on the 2018 and the TRD Sport grille will not match the lights on my 2016. If the lights on my 2016 will not work with this grille assembly I will have to also order the LED lights so it matches up with the TRD Sport grille.....plus not to mention I'll have to see what is needed to make the lights work properly adjusting the wiring in my truck. Too bad you don't live closer to me (I'm in MO) or I would just bring my truck in to you....

I haven't seen anything to make me think the headlights from the 2018 will be at a different angle than the previous ones. As far as physically mounting them, they appear to be identical, and also have the angle adjustment motors on them to adjust the level like the older ones do. I've sent a set of headlights out already, so I feel certain will be seeing some mounted before too long.

@thomasbus337 Man that is the look I'm after on my 2016 grille assembly. Hey can you tell me ... are those the new 2018 black LED headlights with that grille? I know my 2016 SR5 do not have headlights like that...lol

 

Not yet! These are a pair of 2014-2017 Platinum headlights retrofit with Morimoto D2S 4.0 retrofit headlights

 

@thomasbus337 Well the front of you truck looks awesome! Another question - are your DRL just on the bottom or are they on the top AND bottom? Can't tell if that is a glare on top or not. Also does when your truck is on does it just show the DRL on and not the inner yellow light? On my 2016 SR5 my inner yellow light stays on and I hate that look....just wondering if you had to do any wiring adjustments. Is your truck a SR5 by chance?

 

Yes, SR5 .Right now it's just the DRL strip at the bottom and they are on in the pic. I snipped the small gray wire inside the dash to kill the amber DRL's and I wired up the Platinum DRL's to function almost the same as they would from the factory( I have a switch on the dash to turn them off if needed)

@thomasbus337 Ok last question....did you buy your whole headlight assembly with the retrofit lights installed already or did you buy the platinum lights and then had them retrofitted with Morimoto D2S 4.0 retrofit headlights?

I bought the Platinum headlights used from ebay awhile back and then I baked them open and did the retrofit back in July

 

They can be ordered. I might be able to get one of those fairly quickly compared to the other colors. Check out this thread for a link in the store:

@Roman or anyone else that may have information - I'm not sure if you covered this on another thread but some threads are lengthy and hard to find what I'm looking for.

What I was wondering is does Toyota sell bumper end caps that are colored the same as my truck - MGM (1G3)? I would like to get both front and back bumper caps. I got quoted a price to paint them but was wondering what the cost of new ones would be.

Stickies suck - a camaro forum i'm on has more damned stickies than posts.

So instead of the forum making better use of stickies, perhaps we as members should make better use of the search button?

Thanks to @Roman my Inferno color matched door handles and mirror caps arrived today! Now I just need the rest of the truck. Then I gotta figure out what to do about the grill surround, hood bulge, and front bumper caps. I might try painting them myself since replacements are $$$
