What height was the rear to install the pinion shim? Might consider it but haven't had issues AFAIK. So you're lower now and took it out?

I am finding that to be true...These just weren't sealed. Corrosion got in, did its work.

If you're talking about the 4-pin that's actually a 3-pin, I don't think so...but yes that confuses me. There is no wire in that "node". Never was. It's sealed, no hole missing a wire. Just a node sticking up. I assume it gets its ground from somewhere else...I just zip-tied all that stuff up out of the way otherwise I'd take a photo. But you can see if you zoom into the photo, there's no hole for a wire on that node.

The bad news is that the new Tekonsha wiring isn't quite as plug & play as I expected. I haven't thought long enough to describe what confuses me about it, though I tried in the thread over in the towing forum. I'll figure it out. At least my efforts to look closer at what wires go where before I started cutting things led me to find that corroded, almost exploded connection.

Good news is that since I couldn't install the new wiring harness, I installed the new 7-pin socket using the existing wiring, newly cleaned and reconnected, and I have trailer lights! Both blinker, tail lights. Haven't tried brakes yet but I'll set the phone up on camera to see if they work. I'm confident they do.

I'm sure that corroded connection was the sole culprit, but I'm absolutely happy I dug in as far as I did and cleaned or re-did all the other connections.

Yes, and thank you for the help trouble shooting.

I'll need to cut the zip ties and electrical tape tucking everything up out of the way once I learn more about the right way to connect the new wiring harness. When I do that I'll look closer at that 4-pin connection. Like you said it works, so...

Yes, I am lower now, about 1" lower total, which I am OK with. I always felt I had too much height with the OMEs and 2885 coils, plus I never liked using the block in the back. I still may drop the front another .5" after it settles. I've got about 200 miles on the new setup now. It's sitting pretty level right now, maybe the front up just a 1/4"-1/2" or so. The pinion angle shim was just something that I kept as it was recommended with the extra leaf spring AFAIK.

As much as I want to, I just can't do it. IIRC in the past, you said the place you go only torques and not with the quick sticks. I can't trust shops in the ATL area to use anything but an impact.

To that point, I've been threatening for years to get one of those portable floor jack systems that'll lift your vehicle from the framerails to get all 4 wheels off the ground. They've really come down in price in the last 10yrs. I may need to pull the trigger on one sooner than later.

After starting my lugs by hand, I use torque sticks to seat and pre torque mine with my impact. Every time I check them against a torque wrench, they are right on. Tools are tools. They just need to be used appropriately.

I just get sick of taking the time out of my day to hang out at the shop. One of the main reasons I bought a floor jack was so I could rotate my tires. Still kind of a janky operation but I get it done. I'd rather take 20 minutes after work or on a weekend than an hour at the shop. Even though of course a free rotation comes with buying the tires from them.

Yea I politely asked my discount tire if they could use a torque wrench for my lugs, and they did.

Decided for shits and giggles to measure the capacitance, impedance and inductance of my Denso secondary coil to the TRQ replacement with my new IET knockoff LCR meter.

    TRQ:
    2k impedance
    1.2H inductance
    20 pF capacitance

    Denso:
    25k impedance
    4.0H inductance
    5 pF capacitance

Wow, now I know why they’re so much more expensive than aftermarket. I really wonder how good of a spark I’m getting with these TRQs. :eek2:

    No. No, it’s not.

The inductance is roughly 1/4 the Denso coils. If the primary to secondary ratio for the two coils is the same, you have 4 times the voltage created with the Densos than you do the TRQs.

I kindly ask discount tire to never touch my vehicle over the f*** again. I just throw the rims in the back of the truck drive them up there let them mail them put them back in the bed and I drive off and put them on myself. It's the Converse Texas location The manager there I forget to do his name he is such an incompetent a****** I don't understand how that place runs it all. So to save the guys the time and the headache of dealing with that manager I just mount them on the truck myself.
