I have upgraded (yes a double cab is an upgrade) to a double cab and it feels like the rear doors don’t open as wide as they could or should.
I’m curious if anyone else has noticed this and if anyone has upgraded the door check to allow them to open wider?

They definitely don't open to a full 90*

Disconnect the door check at the cab end and open the door as far at it will go without causing any damage and see if you can find a longer door check. If you find one, let us know. They open wide enough for me.

Are there heavy duty Door checks that work for these trucks?

I read a post sometime back where somebody modified Another check to work on this truck. Sure would be nice to have better ones.

My front driver door had to be welded with a little fabrication to repair it after my door check went bad. I guess these could've potentially prevented that:

I think it was a early 90's Camry that worked.

I'll have to play around with it. I would love the doors to open to 90*. The rear driver side needs replacement, so maybe I'll play around and see if there is another part that will work and allow the door to open further.
I like the camry idea. I also thought about Sequoia or 4runner rear door, but maybe I'll order a few and try them out.

I've been eyeing those for a while for my DC.
My doors are in fine condition . . . I was considering them for 'preventative' maintenance.
I haven't searched on here for reviews, installs, thoughts, etc , but it seems like a good concept.
    Any feedback would be welcomed.

They aren't too pricey. I'm considering them as preventative too. My son is only 1 right now, but I'm sure in about 4 years he'll be slinging doors open and slamming them.

I've had them for quite awhile now as preventative maintenance. Nothing bad to say about them. Install is not very intensive, with only three bolts per door. Should only take a couple of minutes to do each one.

And it doesn’t stop for a long time. I finally got the 13yo to remember 90% of the time. The 11yo hasn’t gotten there yet. I try and drive the Highlander with them as much as possible.

I cringe when my youngest opens the car doors because he isn’t tall enough to pull straight out, it’s a very sharp downward angle he’s pulling at them

That’s tough when they’re not tall enough. My 11yo has so much trouble with the back door specifically and I cringe every time.

Tell them instead of "hand over the handle" go with the "hand under the handle" it'll facilitate the upwards pull you're looking for
