I was parked on a hill. I started my 08 5.7 4 wheel drive truck and shifted it into drive. Instead of getting a gear, I get a flashing 4lo idiot light and a beeping sound. The transmission and transfer case are in neutral but it is trying to acquire 4lo. The selector for the transfer case is still in 2wd at this point. I try to readjust the transmission selector from drive to neutral and back to drive. It finally goes back to normal. Has anyone ever had this happen? What causes this? Thanks. — looking for recommendations. I tried to see if there was anything in the Owner's Manual and I couldn't find anything.

Yes. The emergency brake was set. But then I released it.

He'll be notified that he was tagged in this thread...so next time he's on he will presumably chime in.

Others on here may have some answers as well.

Transmission fluid could be either low, or level changed due to gradient.

Have you flushed or changed the fluid yet?

If the tranny juice level is low, the vehicle will struggle in gear,/move/ engage.....My first clue

Like @Bob said, he'll be notified.

Might take a couple of days. From what I see and understand, the guy keeps himself busy.

Keep researching online until then, maybe you'll figure it out before then and see if @LOTSOFTOYS confirms your suspicions.

I saw some stuff on Tundra crew I believe it was last night. It doesn't appear to be major. Thanks for the input though. Any help is welcome. Especially on a bizarre case like this one.

Seems like it was caught in limbo trying to shift into fqd or 4 lo? Not sure your intent.... they have a tough time shifting into 4lo when drive train is bound or moving. Flat ground in neutral works best. If u were going into 4 hi from 2hi, rolling going straight works best

I finally narrowed it down. It is the actuator on the front axle. I climbed underneath and whacked it with a rubber mallet and turned the front driveshaft by hand. It is back in 2 hi. I've got the procedure to tear it down and rebuild or clean it so I think that is what I'm going to do. It acted up again and I did the same thing. I miss the mechanical stuff. It was easier and less of a headache. Thanks for your help though. I do appreciate it.
