I've got a 2002 with 55,000 original miles. Great in every way but I have a problem. The previous owners changed out three alternators and one battery. Local Toyota Dealership said it was control module behind the radio. They unplugged it because of a negative draw. When I bought it, I had a mechanic go through it completely. Said it was pristine. Started driving to work this week and the brake light on the dash came on twice. Stopped and checked terminals. No issue. All the sudden after driving 50 or so miles, radio cracked and shutdown. Then RPM's gauge SD. Then speedometer SD. I had to pull over and have it towed to the original shop. I've spoken to a couple Toyota mechanics about the problem and they said it sounds like an alternator problem again. I can't see four alternators in a year's time. Any ideas on what it may be. I've checked fuses and they are okay. Maybe a ground issue? Desperate for answers! I'm attaching a pic of the control module that was changed out to assist. Many thanks in advance. 89661 control module .png

Check your interior fusebox for evidence of leaks. Clips holding A-pillar trim in place are known to leak, and is responsible for electrical issues/havoc when it gets into the fusebox which is extremely common (pics & pics & pics, it happens a LOT!)

Chances are this is your problem, and the reason why nobody can track down the issue - many circuits pass through the box, and when water gets inside and corrodes things ... gremlin shit begins.
