Rock Slider recommendations

I was looking at the Demello ones since they are in SoCal and I can save on shipping. They are not 100% bolt on though and require frame drilling.

Are there any sliders that are 100% bolt on but will support the weight of the truck? What are you guys running?

Took an easy trip last night and I kept scraping my factory running boards. Time for some real sliders.

 

There’s not that many free holes on the frame so if you find a no drill installation slider it’ll probably be weak, unless it's a weld on type.

 

RCIs are 100% bolt on and will support the vehicle. However, if you are using them in 'extreme' conditions they do recommend frame drilling (I believe 4 holes per side) for the additional support. I've been very happy w/mine went w/powder coated and no top plate.

I don't 'rock crawl' or regularly drop the truck on obstacles like some of our more aggressive crawlers (@Cruzer )... However, if you are doing the type of activity he's doing, I'd probably suggest drilling into the frame for the extra support; nice thing about the RCIs is that you can install bolt on and then drill in later if you decide you need the added support.

Other options being used out there are White Knuckle Off Road and Westcott Designs... both of which require drilling

You're probably right. I haven't looked under there too carefully yet. On my Tacoma, the frame is boxed in that section, so the sliders I have use U shaped mounts that wrap around the frame, making it super strong. Obviously that won't work if the frame is C channel.

 

I've had the Demello rock crushers a couple years now, and drilled the frame for added support. If you decide to do that, the M60+ pig steel drill hog step bits (https://drill-hog.myshopify.com/col...set-m7-unibit-pig-steel-m60-lifetime-warranty) made quick work of it.

I learned that if you powder coat them and scrape over rocks, sand, etc., you get a layer of surface rust that spreads under the coating. I've removed and refinished with rustoleum. I checked the frame holes, and they were still looking good. I shot them with rustoleum when I first installed the sliders. The stainless bolts, ironically, had the most corrosion.

 

So you’d recommend just getting them bare metal? $200 buys a lot of spray paint.

 

I personally would get them baked. $200 doesn’t buy that much paint anymore and it sure as shit don’t cover time.

I have allpro bolt on coated on the Tundra. Still look awesome.

I have allpro on the FJ. Bought steal and did all the prep etching primer and undercoat now they are showing rust so I have to take em off and do it all again. Looking at having them blasted and PC should have just spent the coin.

 

If you use them as intended, yes. You will be cleaning up and touching up chips and I don't believe paint adheres to powder coat. Unless you plan to have them completely stripped and refinished with powder coating.

 

I’ve been very happy with my Demello sliders. I did also choose to add the 4 bolts per side that required drilling…step bit as said worked well

 

...and, three cans of primer and three cans of paint covered both sliders. $9 a rattle can here.

 

I got the Demello rock crushers as well but had them welded on. I bought them with PC but I’ve had to spray paint them black once a year since it all just gets scraped off anyways. My next set of sliders will be bare.

 

I get all metal bare, only because of touch ups and maintenance. I just get rustolemn high heat automotive spray.

I started using this on my CBI Skids, and plan to conintue on other projects when I get them. Sliders, bumpers etc.

 

Quality. With sliders a PC it really comes down to use

 

The PC on the top part of the slider has been solid, no complaints there.

 

Just don’t do Bedliner, unless you like dingle berries

 

Another option i really like are the CBI ones. The mounts look so well designed. My Taco has all CBI stuff and has been solid.

Love my WKOR sliders. Well worth the drilling.

 

No one's mentioned them, but I have Caliraised sliders on my crewmax. They bolt on, but have better gusseting and the base plate runs the whole length of the sliders, not just where the legs are. Plus they have extra clamping into the C channel. I've dropped my truck on them a few times with no permanent damage to either truck or sliders.

Fwiw I got them bare, painted them with Rust-Oleum while they were on the truck, and put skateboard/grip tape on top

Caliraised all the way. I love mine. 100% bolt on and very strong. I agree with the design, i liked it better than the other options and they have a kickout option and the tubing was larger than alot of the other brands. I got the rhino lining on mine since i have family that uses them as steps. It has held up extremely well with no issues and the price at the time was unbeatable. Personally, i dont think its even a close comparison to the other brands. My kickout has already paid for themselves many times over and they didnt even get scratched.

 

I got the victory 4x4 ones years ago when I was in AZ. Got them bare and then powder coated locally. The powder coat has not held up the best and I’ve painted over scrape marks. So far so good.
Now they pretty much are just steps that protect from parking lot door dings (quite well by repainting needs). They’re well made, can lift entire truck using sliders. Did have to drill a few holes for full strength though.

Seems like westcottdesigns and caliraised only make them for the Crew Max. I have a double cab. Wonder what the difference is really. Isn't it the same wheelbase?

 

If you don’t mind drilling, hands down White Knuckle. Bolt on… sdhq.

 

I also did Victory 4x4. They wrap under the frame. Drilled underside of the frame, because strength. They've taken a few good hits, but nothing too crazy yet.
I do wish they had a kick out, though.

I chose them because they worked with Valhalla skid/cat shields and Victory 4x4's super tough gas tank skid.

 

Mine is double cab also. See above post.

 

I have White Knuckle sliders and they require drilling. I never had an Offroad vehicle that I did not have to drill holes to install.

What is it about the drilling that you are concerned about? I can highly recommend the WK sliders for sure.
