Question for the UPS guys. I have two very large checks that I need to mail. VA was recently ranked the worst of all states for USPS. Will UPS be a better option? What kind of guarantee or insurance is provided?

Once you use the rack & pinion fence, you can’t go back.

After 21 years our old Genie 1/2hp screw drive garage door open bit the dust.

I figured 21 years was a great run so I replaced it with another Genie screw drive. This is the 2hp model 4063.

Water was turned back on after the complete whole house re-pipe this afternoon. Next they're coming out tomorrow for last details (like completing the grounding rod and one hose bib), then hopefully code inspection (via Zoom) on Thursday, and finally followed by drywall replacement and texture. After that, it's up to me to re-paint the patches on the walls that I had just painted a few years ago.
Holy shit, it's been a cluster fuck.

I did a lot of work on a table saw in my early years, I think it was an old school Delta/Rockwell/PorterCable??? All Metal.
One of the guys picked up this saw a while back. It seems pretty well built and sturdy.
It's pretty decently powered as far as not bogging down/tripping out when ripping or challenging it.

Nice. I get to do the extension springs on my wife’s door tomorrow.

I need to find a vendor around ATL that’ll sell me 21” x 9’ wood panel replacements for my wood doors. I need to replace 3 panels across two doors, and redo the rubber base seals. I’ve come up empty trying to find 21x108 wood panels with 4 insets anywhere. My garage door guy (RIP, heart attack) said there was a warehouse on the west side of ATL that sold them, but I’m at a loss. Can’t trust Atlanta Overhead Door to do it, they charge twice as much as my dude did. He only charged me wholesale on parts and hourly labor, they charge parts with massive markup and 50% more than he did on labor.

My taco inline has been running well for 15+ years. It’s what we install in commercial applications.

If you are re-piping anyway, go dedicated return line. You don’t need to run all the way to each fixture (and will need to carefully balance the system if you do), but getting a loop on your long run that gets you close to the end-of-line fixtures is a huge benefit. A 3/4” pipe flowing to a faucet with a 2gpm flow restrictor will travel ~1.4 feet per second. Figure the pipe centerline distance to your furthest fixture, and you’ve got an idea how long it will take hot water to get there…unless you’ve got a recirc loop.

I might have missed the question about tankless…

definitely a buffer tank in the recirc loop - separate from (or integrated) and downstream of the tankless heater itself is the way to go. That eliminates the “cold water sandwich” effect. You don’t have to have a recirc loop as part of that to get the buffer tank benefit, but it does help.

Yeah, if doing a full replumb and going tankless, super tempting to do one big loop of 3/4 or even 1” and doing recirc on the loop. Short branches from there. May not be reasonable for all homes though. Would work well for us but no need to replumb.

Small buffer tank is the key.

Mine is on an aquastat clipped to a bare section of copper pipe on the return line just before the pump, which then runs through a check valve and dumps into my 5 gallon buffer tank (which is a regular tank heater). I originally had it on a timer, but our evening schedules were too variable (hell - even the morning schedule) and this served the intent better. When the return line temperature drops below ~100, the pump circulates until the line hits ~125 (my tankless is set at 130) and then cuts off again. All the hot water piping in the house is also insulated to reduce temp loss.

For those looking at a recirculation line to keep the water hot. More pipe size is not better. It works as a devise to keep the line hot not provide the hot water. A 1/2" line can keep and apartment building always hot. If you only need to keep one fixture hot to keep from wasting water I suggest under sink recirculation pumps. Easy install and no wasted water. Only works when you need it.

Ugh I hate copper pipes. We woke up to a drip in the office. Copper pipe eroded and had a hole. Replaced with pex and called the insurance company and now the wife has a renovated master bath. (Found out the toliet has a slow leak and damaged subfloor and beams while I was replacing all the piping in the room)

I ripped out all the galv from my 1953 house and went copper. I love copper (should have been a meth addict?) Anyway I deburred every cut. Over a long period of time apparently the turbulence can erode the copper away. Ide bet that's what happened.
Not sure how cool/dry you keep your place, but the toilet tanks will sweat like mad in the summer giving you the impression there's a leak. Just something to consider. Haha, I remember looking at a home that had either a mix, or pure hot water plumbed to the toilets to prevent that sweating.... Fancy!

Thankfully this is the only copper in the house, I'm guessing to support the pump
